Final Fantasy XIV artwork for the Mare Lamentorum

[Update #2]: Final Fantasy XIV's Patch 6.1 will mark the beginning of a brand new story.

[Update]: At long last, the Endwalker expansion has now been unleashed in full!

Due to a small delay, the official launch of Final Fantasy XIV's much-anticipated Endwalker expansion has been pushed back to December 7th. However, while the proper launch will only happen in a couple of days, you might be quite interested to hear that the early access phase is already underway!

So if you've pre-ordered Endwalker and are more than eager to experience the new content, you can now simply log in and start playing! Should you run into any sort of trouble, however, I'd recommend hopping over to the the brief FAQ and checking if everything is working correctly with your account.

Warframe's big teaser image for The New War quest

[Update]: After four years of waiting, Warframe's main storyline has now moved forward with The New War!

Four years have gone by since Warframe's main storyline ended on a massive cliffhanger. During those four years the game has expanded in a variety of different ways, both in terms of gameplay and story, though the cliffhanger was simply never resolved.

Thankfully, the seemingly eternal wait is now slowly coming to an end as Warframe's big December 15th update will bring with it The New War - a lengthy story quest that will finally reveal what's happening with the Sentients, Lotus, as well as the rest of the major factions.

MTG Arena artwork for Omnath, Locus of Creation

[Update #2]: MTG Arena's digital-only Alchemy format has now arrived, and with it a whole assortment of new and rebalanced cards.

[Update]: The Alchemy update will also bring with it Historic Brawl bans for Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, Field of the Dead and Agent of Treachery!

In an announcement they were building up towards for nearly a year now, MTG Arena devs have revealed a brand new, digital-only format - Alchemy. It'll essentially function as an offshoot of Standard and will contain the same cards along with a spattering of digital-only additions that will come with each major set.

The biggest difference between Standard and Alchemy, however, will be in balancing. While Standard cards are linked to paper Magic and thus unable to truly change, the Alchemy ones will be digital-only and will thus be frequently rebalanced in order to keep the metagame in an interesting place.

Remastered GTA Trilogy artwork and logo

[Update]: Rockstar have announced that the next big Grand Theft Auto game is currently in development.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition released a short while ago with remastered versions of three classics: Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Unfortunately, while the idea behind the remastered GTA Trilogy was a brilliant one, the actual execution left a lot to be desired.

Not only did the three games launch in an extremely buggy state, to the point where some of them could become downright unplayable due to the compounding bugs, but the fancy-sounding visual enhancements also ended up being a thoroughly mixed bag with some characters looking lovely and other straight up horrifying.

Fall Guys Season 6 update artwork and logo

[Update #2]: Fall Guys is going free-to-play and leaving Steam in favor of Epic on June 21st.

[Update]: Fall Guys' April 2022 events will be leading into a massive announcement for the game!

If you've picked up Fall Guys at some point during the recent Steam sale, you'll be quite happy to hear that a brand new update has just arrived with a bunch of new content. The rather aptly named Season 6: Party Spectacular brings with it a variety of colorful obstacles to tackle (and get tackled by), an assortment of party themed costumes so you can look your best as you get knocked out, and naturally, five new maps to slowly master.

The update has also added 50 new reward tiers to push through, the first of many limited time events that will reward cosmetics, as well as the ability for PC players to finally use custom usernames again. And just for good measure, Season 6 has also added cross-progression between PS4 and Steam!

[Update #2]: Inspired by this balance experiment, Overwatch has added bouncing arrows for Hanzo and a mid-air roll for Cassidy.

[Update]: Overwatch's annual Winter Wonderland 2021 event is set to arrive on December 16th.

If you're looking for an excuse to dive back into Overwatch, the most recent update would be a pretty good one. In collaboration with various community members, Blizzard has just unleashed some absolutely ridiculous and highly entertaining balance changes onto the Experimental game mode.

The changes include things like giving Hanzo the ability to ricochet storm arrows, making pilot D.Va's melee attack do more damage than Reinhardt's hammer, allowing Lucio to goomba-stomp enemies while using his ultimate, and the list goes on for a while. You can check out the full extent of the changes over at the Overwatch website.

Guild Wars 2 Siege Turtle mount artwork

[Update #2]: I hope you're ready for even more events because Guild Wars 2 has now added Wintersday!

[Update]: ArenaNet have detailed how the End of Dragons expansion Legendaries will work.

After quite a few teasers and previews, Guild Wars 2's biggest End of Dragons beta event has now arrived. It brings with it all nine of the upcoming elite specializations, each with their own unique abilities and playstyles, as well as the mighty Siege Turtle mount that can not only fly via built-in jetpack, but also seat two players!

If you're wondering what the big boy looks like in action, allow me to share with you the recently posted teaser. Needless to say, it's yet another awesome mount addition for Guild Wars 2!

Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong artwork

[Update]: Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong has now arrived with a fun story and plenty of jank.

The upcoming Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong is a narrative-driven RPG that will have you control three different vampires, each with their own distinct disciplines, abilities and personalities. You can then further customize the trio through a variety of upgrades and skills, many of which will change the way you interact with the world and how others react to you, with the focus being on seeing how you'll be able to handle the consequences of your actions.

If that sounds like a pretty fun concept for you, I'm afraid I have some bad news to deliver. Instead of launching in early 2022 as previously announced, Swansong has now been pushed back a couple of months.

Halo Infinite multiplayer artwork

[Update]: Halo Infinite's open-world singleplayer campaign has now arrived for PC and Xbox, and so far it's looking remarkably good.

Halo Infinite's free Season 1 multiplayer beta launched a little while ago, and as you're likely well aware by this point, it did so alongside a fair bit of complaining from the playerbase. While the actual gameplay is both fun and polished, the in-game progression systems leave a lot to be desired.

The first problem is that gaining experience is a slow and tedious process, so if you're itching to get some of the fancy cosmetics, you're going to have to play for a very, very long time. This then feeds into the second problem, which is that many of the challenges actively push you to ignore objectives and just do random nonsense throughout the match.

A Quiet Place artwork from the movie poster

In a bit of an unexpected announcement, Saber Interactive and iLLOGIKA have revealed that they are working on a video game adaptation of A Quiet Place, the 2018 horror movie. The details are currently few and far between, though what I can tell you is that the A Quiet Place game will be launching in 2022.

“The A Quiet Place video game will let fans experience the tension of the films with a level of immersion they’ve never felt before,” explains the brief announcement from iLLOGIKA. “We’re excited to work with EP1T0ME and to team up with Saber Interactive to share this unique vision of hope and horror with players everywhere in the future.”
