Forever Skies official artwork and logo

In stark contrast to the usual survival experience where you begin the game by punching trees and smashing rocks together, in the upcoming Forever Skies you will start off with a high-tech airship at your disposal. With it you'll need to explore what little remains of Earth, research strange anomalies that litter the long-destroyed cities, and naturally, secure a stable source of food and water before delving even deeper.

What all of this looks like in actual gameplay, that you can find out through the recently posted reveal trailer. Have a gander, it's quite an interesting concept:

King of the Dwarves screenshot of a Troll attacking the Dwarves

While the name might imply some sort of connection to Dwarf Fortress, the upcoming King of the Dwarves is more of a Dungeon Keeper inspired colony management and city building simulator. What this means in gameplay terms is that you will have to gather resources and amass vast riches, mine and build the perfect underground kingdom, and also do your best to defend your home once hordes of Orcs and Goblins start banging on the door.

Along the way you'll also have to manage hundreds of Dwarves with a variety of different specializations, turn dangerous lava rivers and waterfalls to your advantage, research new technology and forge mighty weapons, and occasionally even indulge in a bit of diplomacy. A simple enough concept, but one that definitely has a great deal of potential.

Dead Cells' The Queen & the Sea artwork and logo

[Update #2]: Dead Cells' first 2023 expansion will be a rather ambitious crossover with Castlevania.

[Update]: Dead Cells' free update has added The Bank as a blinged-out new biome to ransack.

After a brief round of teasers last year, Dead Cells' newest expansion The Queen & the Sea has now been unleashed. The Queen & the Sea brings with it two chunky new biomes to explore, the Infested Shipwreck and the Lighthouse, which will serve as optional routes running in parallel with the High Peak Castle and Derelict Distillery.

The Queen & the Sea has also added nine new weapons to toy around with, the most ridiculous of which is an actual shark you can throw at people, as well as a variety of new enemies to smash and outfits to help you look good while doing so. Most importantly of all, there is also a challenging new boss to fight, as well as a brand new ending to unlock!

Empire of Ember screenshot of magic used in battle

After spending about a year in Early Access, the Mount & Blade inspired action-RPG Empire of Ember is now nearly ready for launch. Once it arrives on January 20th it'll bring with it a combat system designed around massive battles between armies, the ability to design and fully demolish fortresses, and just to spice things up a bit, a bunch of dungeons to pillage for loot and resources in between all of the warmongering.

You can get a pretty good idea of how all of this translates into actual gameplay through the recently posted trailer. Have a peek:

Zelda inspired Tunic artwork and logo

Heavily inspired by the classic Zelda games, Tunic is an action-adventure that's all about exploring a mysterious world riddled with enemies to smash and secrets to unearth. Along the way you'll acquire an assortment of new items and abilities to help you explore previously inaccessible areas, and naturally, combine everything you have in order to tackle some of the oversized bosses.

What all of this looks like in actual gameplay, that you can find out through the recently posted trailer. Have a gander, it's quite a cute one:

Mortal Sin screenshot of a bizarre and creepy valley

[Update]: Mortal Sin has now landed into Steam Early Access, and so far things are looking quite good.

If you're in the mood for something a little bit out of the ordinary, you might want to keep an eye on the upcoming Mortal Sin. It's a horror themed hack & slash roguelike with a thoroughly unique art style that is simultaneously charming and unsettling.

Since this is one of those things that's basically impossible to describe through words alone, allow me to share with you the recently posted gameplay trailer. It should clue you in quite quickly on just what Mortal Sin is all about. Have a look:

Scorn screenshot of a giant, robotic heart

[Update]: Scorn has now finally arrived, though I'm afraid it has done so alongside some rather harsh criticism.

After spending quite a few years in development, the H.R. Giger inspired horror-adventure Scorn is now slowly getting ready for prime time. You can expect to see it arrive for PC and Xbox in October 2022, most likely around Halloween as that tends to be the best time to get people excited to try a brand new horror game.

Since atmosphere is by far the most important thing for these types of game, allow me to stop yapping and instead share with you one of the lengthier gameplay previews. It's a bit unpolished and outdated at this point since it's over a year old, but it should still give you a pretty good impression of just what Scorn is trying to achieve. Have a gander:

[Update #2]: Project Zomboid's Build 42 update is aiming to massively expand the world map.

[Update]: Project Zomboid's Update 41.73 has added scores of small but highly welcome changes.

Despite only just releasing the massive Build 41 update that brought with it online multiplayer, improved visuals and a boatload of gameplay changes, Project Zomboid devs are already setting their sights on the next big feature. As you might guess from the title, it will be the long-awaited addition of NPCs!

While the work on NPCs has already begun, it's important to temper your expectations as the full implementation of the NPC system will require quite a few major updates to complete. In other words, once the NPCs arrive alongside Build 43 they will likely still be unpolished and a bit rudimentary. The good news is that the subsequent major updates will all be focused around them, so the system should get fleshed out sooner rather than later.

Cuphead's The Delicious Last Course artwork for the chef

[Update]: Cuphead - The Delicious Last Course has arrived with a new character and deviously delightful new bosses.

It has taken far, far longer than originally anticipated, but it seems that Cuphead's The Delicious Last Course expansion is now nearly ready for prime time. As such, you can expect to see Cuphead's very first DLC launch onto PC and consoles on June 30, 2022.

Once it arrives, The Delicious Last Course will add Ms. Chalice as a brand new character with her own moveset and abilities, all of which will be usable in both the DLC and the main campaign. There will also be a previously undiscovered Inkwell Isle to explore, an assortment of new bosses to endlessly slam your head against, as well as plenty of new weapons and magical charms to mix things up with.

Praey for the Gods screenshot of a giant boss coming through the fog

It took a successful Kickstarter campaign, many years in development, as well as a completely pointless name change due to ZeniMax, but Praey for the Gods has now finally arrived onto PC, PlayStation and Xbox! As for its premise, it's very simple.

You'll need to venture into the land of never-ending winter in order to face off against gigantic bosses, Shadow of the Colossus style. In other words, you'll need to track them across the land while braving the ceaseless cold, avoid their attacks with a variety of tools like gliders and grappling hooks, and eventually even jump onto them in order to exploit their weaknesses and finally bring them down for good.
