While the name might imply some sort of connection to Dwarf Fortress, the upcoming King of the Dwarves is more of a Dungeon Keeper inspired colony management and city building simulator. What this means in gameplay terms is that you will have to gather resources and amass vast riches, mine and build the perfect underground kingdom, and also do your best to defend your home once hordes of Orcs and Goblins start banging on the door.

Along the way you'll also have to manage hundreds of Dwarves with a variety of different specializations, turn dangerous lava rivers and waterfalls to your advantage, research new technology and forge mighty weapons, and occasionally even indulge in a bit of diplomacy. A simple enough concept, but one that definitely has a great deal of potential.

Rather than babble on, allow me to share with you the recently posted trailer. It should clue you in quite quickly on just what King of the Dwarves is trying to accomplish:

While the exact release date has not been announced just yet, the developers are planning to unleash King of the Dwarves at some point in 2023. You can read a little bit more about this, as well as keep an eye on any future updates, over at Steam.
