Ark: Survival Of The Fittest has been released

Much like H1Z1, the folks behind Ark: Survival Evolved have decided to spin their Survival of the Fittest game mode in to a completely separate entity while still retaining all of the bloodlust and fire breathing.

Unlike H1Z1, however, Ark: Survival of the Fittest will be completely free-to-play, without even a single microtransaction, cosmetic or not, to mess up what's supposed to be a highly competitive title. Here's the short trailer and a bit of information on what to expect from Survival of the Fittest:

The Division is the fastest selling new IP

Given the years of hype surrounding The Division, and the overall quality of content shown in the beta tests, I'm not surprised to see it selling extremely well, but I highly doubt anyone expected it to crush records in such a convincing fashion.

According to a Ubisoft blog post that went out recently, The Division is not only the company's best-selling game, but also the fastest selling new franchise in the entire world, generating ~$330 million within its first five days. Here's what Ubisoft had to say about their new record, and a couple of launch-week statistics:

Crytek has launched CryEngine 5

Crytek has come out today and announced that their brand new CryEngine 5 is now available for use, thus prompting thousands of developers to question their sanity as they attempt to figure out where CryEngine 4 had gone. As it turns out, the most recent CryEngine, simply titled as CryEngine, was the fourth iteration, but avoided using the standard nomenclature because reasons.

That short rant aside, CryEngine 5 brings with it DirectX 12 support, a community marketplace and help forum, royalty free development and much more. Here's a video showcasing what exactly you can accomplish with the CryEngine and what features are being added with CryEngine 5:

Oculus Rift game lineup

With the Rift's July shipping date slowly inching closer, the Oculus team has decided to do a showcase of all the VR games that will be launching alongside the Rift.

The list is quite extensive, and even though each game barely gets 3 seconds of screen time the video still manages to be 2 minutes long, a fact that bodes well for the future of VR gaming. Have a look, but don't blink or you might miss a few dozen:

Tyranny is a new RPG from Obsidian and Paradox

Have you ever wondered what happens with the world if evil prevails in that final, cataclysmic battle between demi-gods? Does life continue as normal, do the vast hordes of abominable creatures return from whence they came, and does peace ever really return to the ravaged land?

If your answer to the first question is yes, you'll be delighted to hear that Tyranny, a brand new RPG from Obsidian and Paradox, will delve deep in to exactly those topics. Here's the announcement trailer and some more information:

Dota 2's Custom Game Pass is here to help modders out

After the paid Skyrim mods fiasco I didn't expect Valve would be back so soon with a new implementation, nor that it would be a genuinely good one.

Valve's latest answer to the age old problem of how to support custom game developers is the Custom Game Pass, an in-game purchasable item that grants you additional content or features in select custom games within Dota 2. Here's how it works:

Total War: Warhammer Vampire Counts faction vs Dwarves

If you're interested in playing a complex and morally ambiguous race then look elsewhere as the Vampire Counts are as mustache-twirling evil as it gets. Even pronouncing their name really quickly leads to an insult!

What they do have, however, is countless hordes of undead, extremely large shoulder pads, zombie dragons, and an amazingly well done in-engine trailer. Have a look, its 3 full minutes of the best kind of cheesiness:

Warcraft 3 Patch 1.27a is now available

Blizzard's classic games team only just appeared this week but they've already garnered a huge amount of respect from the community, first by patching Diablo 2 glitches and compatibility issues, and now by doing the same thing for Warcraft 3.

Today's update, titled simply as Patch 1.27a, brings with it improved compatibility for modern systems, a crash fix, and a preview of things to come. Here are the patch notes and what exactly Blizzard is planning to do with Warcraft 3 in the future:

System Shock 1 Remastered gameplay footage

[Update]: After nearly seven years in development, the System Shock Remake will finally be launching in March 2023!

The original System Shock 1 released over 20 years ago, and if you would attempt to play it today that fact would become apparent very quickly as the gameplay has not aged well.

However, the first gameplay footage from the upcoming System Shock 1 Remaster tells a completely different story. Not only does it look good, but it also seems to be far less clunky as well. Have a look, and I do hope you like jump-cuts:

In order to refresh your memory before Episode 2 launches Telltale prepared a video showcasing all of the major choices you could've made in Episode 1: In Too Deep.
