[Update]: The game in question has now been revealed as Amnesia: Rebirth, and it's supposed to be an "evolutionary leap" for the series!

Frictional Games, the studio behind the terrifying Amnesia: The Dark Descent and equally haunting SOMA, have now launched a small teaser for their brand new game. Right now the entire website is simply an image of what looks like a planet or a stream of light coming through a hole, so there's not much to speculate on just yet.

That said, Frictional has already given us a clue about what they're working on, and it's not just one game, but two! The first one will be a narrative-focused sci-fi game that will attempt to tackle interesting concepts like SOMA but without the horrifying monsters chasing you around, while the second one will be a classic Frictional horror game in the vein of Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

Which of the two types this new game will be, I'm afraid I don't know, but I do hope it'll be the former. Amnesia was absolutely terrifying for me and I had to take frequent breaks in order to beat it, but to be perfectly honest, SOMA is the one that stayed in my head for far longer despite being technically less scary.

SOMA's creeping, existential dread and pondering over the nature of humanity presented a genuinely different experience compared to most classic horror games. As such, I'm quite curious to see what Frictional can do now that they don't need to try and please two different types of players at the same time, those that are in it for the story and those that love the highly tense horror.

Whatever the case may be, I'll make sure to let you know once the full announcement goes live as I'm just eager to see it myself.
