Atari has announced the Atari Vault - a collection of the 100 best Atari games

In a recent press released Atari has announced that they will be bundling together a hundred of the most iconic and fan-favorite Atari games in to a single title along with new features and multiplayer capability.

While information is currently scarce as Atari is saving their big announcements for the upcoming PAX South here's what they did divulge:

"Atari Vault enables fans to relive the classic gaming experience in the modern age, with an upgraded user interface, the addition of online and local multiplayer options, and Steam Controller support that provides significantly improved precision control.

For the first time ever, fans from around the world can challenge other players on Steam Leaderboards and compete for arcade supremacy – all while rocking out to the games' original 70's and 80's soundtracks. Atari Vault is under development by Code Mystics, and will launch in Spring 2016."

The developers Code Mystics have a long history of handling ports, ranging from old Atari classics to more modern indie games such as Nidhogg and Little Inferno. In other words, they have both experience and a lot of games underneath their belt so here's to hoping this Atari Vault collection ends up being quite good.

As for the announcement, the most interesting thing to me is the fact that they will be adding multiplayer to some of the games. Which games and how many will receive updated features Atari didn't reveal but the idea of playing some of the oldest PC classics in multiplayer is an appealing one, as long as the price is right and the ports well done.

You can expect to hear more about the Atari Vault as well as RollerCoaster Tychoon World during this year's Pax South that will take place from January 29th to January 31st.
