Guild Wars 2's big spring update is coming April 19

Guild Wars 2 is currently in the worst shape it has ever been. The entirety of its "massive" €45 expansion was devoured within a month, WvW is practically dead, dungeons have been scrapped, Fractals are worse than they were prior to the rework, and the best feature of Guild Wars 2, the free-flowing open world quests, have been put on a timer so if you can't dedicate 2 full hours to them then you can simply forget about getting any rewards out of it.

ArenaNet messed, and they messed up so bad that people have started comparing Heart of Thorns with Spore when it comes to pre-launch promises and reality. There is some hope in this sea of negativity, however, as Mike O Brien came out recently and stated that the big Spring Update will be arriving on April 19, and bringing with it numerous fixes the community has been begging for over half a year now.

Cobalt is free to play for today

[Update]: The promotion is now over.

Cobalt is a 2D platformer/brawler/shooter where every single thing is done through the use of combat rolling, extreme slow-mo action, and plenty of good ol' regular shooty action as well. It released back in February to some mixed reviews, mostly on account of the story campaign being rather imbalanced, but from what I can tell the multiplayer is almost universally praised.

So if you would like to give Cobalt a spin and see if its the sort of thing you might enjoy, now would be the prime time to do so as Cobalt is free to play on Steam for the next 22 hours. Here's the trailer, so you can hopefully get a better idea of what on earth Cobalt is all about:

Doom 3: Redux mod is a graphical overhaul of Doom 3

I'll be the first one to say that Doom 3 wasn't very good, mostly because it threw away everything that made the classics so great in favor of half-assed horror elements, but its still heartwarming to see someone this passionate about bringing Doom 3 in to the modern era.

The mod in question is Doom 3: Redux, a solo developed project that boasts improvements to the visuals and audio design, new game modes, restored content, new features, but most importantly, no changes to the overall spirit of Doom 3. If you're wondering how exactly this looks in action, here's a rather lengthy trailer:

Dark Souls 3's update 1.03.1 is coming on April 18, DLC in autumn

Dark Souls 3, while an absolutely amazing game in nearly every respect, launched with a rather shaky PC version that featured frequent crashes, and bugs for a non-insignificant chunk of the playerbase.

While I was thankfully spared of even the tiniest of problems, those among you that were less fortunate will be glad to hear that the big bug-fixing and balancing patch will be arriving on Monday (April 18). Here are the brief, but significant patch notes for the imaginatively named Update 1.03.1:

Rainbow 6 Siege is having a free weekend

Ubisoft's team orientated FPS Rainbow 6 Siege went through quite a few controversies after its launch, but is now mostly fixed up, and most importantly, actually fun to play.

If you would like to test that theory for yourself, you now have the chance as Rainbow 6 Siege is going to be completely free all the way until 1 pm PT on April 17. You can grab it either on Uplay, or on Steam after which you will have to go through Uplay anyway, but at least you have the illusion of choice!

Shadwen is coming in May, here are the system requirements

Shadwen is an upcoming time-bending stealth game that promises a return to the glory days of old, with brutal enemies, tricky puzzles, and plenty of options when it comes to tackling each level. Most interestingly, you will be able to manipulate the environment itself in order to prepare traps for the unaware guards, create impromptu shelters, and all that good stuff.

It is being made by Frozenbyte, developers most famous for their work on the Trine series, and while Shadwen certainly continues on with the tradition of having visually pleasing levels, it is quite the departure from the cheerful and care-free atmosphere of the Trine games. Here's a brief trailer so you can see for yourself:

Dark Souls 3 tips and things you should know before starting

Dark Souls 3 is an incredibly difficult game, but it isn't an unfair one, and if you take the time to learn its intricacies you will find an impressive world to explore, one that's filled with all sorts of wondrous locations and challenging fights that will leave eternally yearning for more.

So if this is your first rodeo with the Souls series, or if you're simply looking for a couple of tips to help you along, allow me to present you in a spoiler-free way the 12 most important things one should know when starting Dark Souls 3:

Doom's progression and customization systems have been detailed

With Doom's open beta nearly upon us (April 15), it is prime time to learn a bit more about the progression and customization options we'll be able to toy around with.

The most important thing to note here is that you will not be gaining power as you level up, but rather cosmetic features and consumable items with which you can add a bit of flavor to the constant bloodshed. Here's the brief trailer, and my short overview of what's to come:

A new Ghostbusters game is coming on July 12th

You know how most movie tie-in games tend to be a steaming pile of the nastiest, most vile garbage you can find? Well, you'll be delighted to hear that the new Ghostbusters game has the potential to be one such classic.

On the positive side, at least the developers have realized that the characters from the Ghostbusters remake movie are all completely unlikable, so they've invented their own ones who seem to be a lot more proficient at their jobs. Here's the trailer, and I hope I lowered your expectations enough for you to not get depressed over the fact that the last good Ghostbusters game came out eons ago:

Total War: Warhammer's latest video gives us a tour of the Old World

I don't think I've ever seen Creative Assembly this excited about one of their projects. Its only been a couple of days since the last Total War: Warhammer video presented the forces of Chaos, and already we have another showcase to enjoy.

This video, however, is not focused around the furious combat between mortal enemies, but rather on the reason behind all of that bloodshed, the Old World itself. Have a look as its quite the sight to behold, but just don't ask who exactly goes around mountains ranges and sculpts lifelike skulls in to them:
