Absolver official artwork and logo for the Downfall update

[Update]: The Absolver team is now working on Sifu, a singleplayer martial arts roguelike with a bit of a mystical twist!

Absolver is a martial arts RPG with the focus quite firmly placed on melee battles, though with the combat style being a bit of an interesting mixture between an action-RPG and a fighting game. In other words, instead of using predefined skills and combos like you would in your average fighting game, in Absolver you are able to customize your fighter's entire arsenal including combos, blocks, dodges, and the list goes on.

If you're not a massive fan of PvP but you love the idea of this kind of skill-based combat, you might be glad to hear that the new Downfall update has now added a lengthy co-op PvE mode. Each run through the Adalian Mines is procedurally generated and features a variety of newly upgraded enemies, including three large-scale boss fights, so if you're up for smacking around a nearly endless supply of bad guys, this new update has you covered.

Total War: Three Kingdoms official artwork without logo

After the extravagant Total War: Warhammer games, the mainline series will once again be going in a historical direction with Total War: Three Kingdoms this March 7th. The macOS and Linux ports, however, will be arriving shortly after launch of the PC version. The exact date hasn't been given just yet, but you can definitely expect them to arrive in spring of 2019, unlike some of the other Total War ports which took quite a while to finish.

While Three Kingdoms will indeed be a historical game, it is worth mentioning that it will also have a separately balanced "Romance" mode that fully embraces some of the more mystical elements that permeate the Romance of the Three Kingdoms story. So whether you're a fan of realistic strategy or Dynasty Warriors inspired ridiculousness, there will be a game mode dedicated to that sort of playstyle.

If you ever wanted to give Overwatch a try, but you weren't exactly keen on buying it at full price, you might be interested to hear that it's currently $12 as a part of the Humble Monthly bundle. The one catch is that the September bundle will only last for another 6 days, so you might want to hurry up and make a decision before its too late.

As for whether Overwatch is actually worth your time and money, I would say the answer is a definitive yes. There are some balance issues here and there, as is tradition, but for the most part Overwatch is a thoroughly enjoyable experience and has been since the very day it launched. It also helps that it gets major updates every month or two, so even if you decide to take a break like I frequently do, there will be always be something interesting to suck you back in soon enough. As such, for $12 I would say that Overwatch is a steal!

Call of Cthulhu official screenshot showing a giant gate

Call of Cthulhu is Cyanide Studio's upcoming video game adaptation of the classic pen & paper RPG called (you guessed it) Call of Cthulhu. As you would also expect from any game heavily influenced by Lovecraft's writing, Call of Cthulhu will have you instigate a mysterious cult filled with misshapen figures in dark robes and otherworldly horrors, as well as try and figure out what in the world is happening before you go well and truly insane.

Since trying to explain this through words alone is a bit of a pointless venture, I am very happy to say that the developers have now released an hour-long and unedited gameplay preview of Call of Cthulhu's very beginning. So if you ever wanted to know what Call of Cthulhu is all about, have a good look:

Sea of Thieves screenshot of the new Forsaken Shores volcano

[Update]: Sea of Thieves has been pinned for a June 3rd release date on Steam.

The multiplayer-focused pirate adventure and exploration game Sea of Thieves docked onto PC and Xbox One back in March. While it landed to nearly overwhelming praise, those kind words quickly and unfortunately gave way to frustration as players realized that there just wasn't enough content in Sea of Thieves to keep them engaged for long.

With that in mind, I am glad to say that Sea of Thieves has now released a major update by the name of Forsaken Shores. It brings with it a brand new region to explore, volcanoes and earthquakes to avoid, boiling seas to cross in the newly introduced rowboats, as well as numerous new cargo missions to undertake. How long this content will last, I'm afraid I have no idea, but there certainly seems to be a considerable amount of new stuff to toy around with!

Fortnite official artwork showing numerous characters dropping into the zone

[Update]: It looks like Fortnite will be making the 'no building' mode a permanent addition!

While Nintendo and Microsoft have embraced cross-platform play with open arms, Sony has been dragging their feet throughout this whole generation of consoles. Thankfully, their stubborn reluctance seems to have now subsided as they have just released a cross-platform beta for the immensely popular Fortnite.

"Following a comprehensive evaluation process, SIE has identified a path toward supporting cross-platform features for select third party content," reads the official announcement. "We recognize that PS4 players have been eagerly awaiting an update, and we appreciate the community’s continued patience as we have navigated through this issue to find a solution."

Fallout 76 official artwork of a dusty Brotherhood of Steel helmet

Fallout 76 will be arriving this November 14th, bringing with it a bit of a different experience than previous Fallout games. Instead of roaming the wastelands and attempting to save (or ruin) the world, Fallout 76 will simply ask of you to survive and thrive. In order to do that you will need to team up with other players, build up giant bases, assemble mighty defenses, and naturally, continuously compete with other players for various resources that lie scattered about.

While the recently posted trailer won't exactly tell you much about the actual gameplay, it will at least give you a good idea of the story and setting behind Fallout 76. So if you're curious, have a look as it's a surprisingly heartfelt video for a game based around beating up your fellow players:

If you ever wanted to give MTG Arena a try, now would be the perfect time to do so. Not only has it entered Open Beta so it's available to everyone for free, but the transition has also reset everyone's progress, meaning that whether you're a veteran or a complete beginner, you'll be starting off on the same foot.

Besides the arrival of the Open Beta itself, this update has also been marked with the release of the new Guilds of Ravnica set which brings with it a variety of new cards and mechanics to play around with. While it's not the most elegant viewer around, you can get a good look at all of the new cards over at the official website.

World of Warcraft: Classic artwork showing a Dwarven Gryphon rider

After the classic phrase "You think you do, but you don't," and the absolutely astonishing avalanche of arguments that followed it, Blizzard finally announced back in November of 2017 that they are officially working on World of Warcraft: Classic. While the details are still few and far between, what I can tell you is that the new-old World of Warcraft will feature all of the same sensibilities, strengths and flaws of the original.

If you're like me and you're wondering what exactly Blizzard means by this, you might be interested to hear that a World of Warcraft: Classic demo will be included alongside the BlizzCon ticket, both physical and virtual. While certainly exciting, it is important to mention that this will cost you a fair bit of money as even the Virtual Ticket is a rather hefty €40!

WildStar screenshot of some rather menacing enemies

While the original version of WildStar was quite an interesting new MMO, it unfortunately launched with some major flaws that ended up scaring away both the casual and hardcore parts of the playerbase - a blow WildStar has just never managed to recover from. And now, four years after launch, I am saddened to announce that WildStar will be closing down its doors for good on November 28th.

"We are truly grateful for the vibrant community that grew around WildStar, and for all of your support throughout the life of this game," reads the rather heartfelt developer update. "Our hope is that in these last couple months we can all celebrate the great adventures you’ve had on Planet Nexus—and have some fun along the way."
