[Update #2]: After a few delays, the Historic Horizons expansion has now been unleashed!

[Update]: MTG Arena is giving away free Premier Drafts entries and delaying Jumpstart: Historic Horizons.

It has only been a short while since Strixhaven's Mystical Archives shook the Historic format to its foundations, and already we're getting a brand new infusion of powerful cards to play around with. Instead of a proper set, however, the upcoming Historic expansion will be delivered through the Jumpstart format.

Jumpstart: Historic Horizons will be launching onto MTG Arena this August 12th, bringing with it 782 unique cards to collect, 372 of which will be entirely new to MTG Arena. More interestingly, 31 of those cards will be entirely new to Magic and designed exclusively with online play in mind!

[Update]: New World devs have announced their plans for major updates throughout 2022.

After suffering delay after delay after delay, Amazon's New World MMO finally entered Closed Beta back in July and was all set to fully launch on August 31, 2021. However, it would appear that old habits are hard to drop, and so Amazon has now decided to push back New World's release once last time.

Thankfully, it's not all bad news given that this delay is a fairly small one. As such, you'll be able to dive into New World about a month later than planned, on September 28, 2021. The reason, as you might expect, is that the developers need a bit more time to parse through all of the beta feedback and implement some much needed changes.

[Update #2]: World War Z is adding Horde Mode XL with an utterly absurd number of zombies to fight.

[Update]: Aftermath has now shambled onto PC and consoles, though not without some technical trouble.

If you're itching for some sort of excuse to whip out the ol' chainsaw and go to town on a massive horde of zombies, you'll be happy to hear that the co-op focused World War Z is soon getting a brand new expansion. Once Aftermath arrives on September 21, 2022 it'll bring with it three new campaigns set in Rome, Vatican City and Kamchatka, greatly improved melee combat and a first-person mode option, as well as whole host of new toys to torment the undead with.

First things first, allow me to share with you the recently posted and developer guided gameplay overview trailer. It should give you a pretty good idea of just what all of this looks like in action. Have a gander:

Microsoft Flight Simulator official artwork and logo

[Update #2]: The Microsoft Flight Simulator series is celebrating its 40th anniversary this November alongside a big update that will add helicopters, gliders and more!

[Update]: Microsoft Flight Simulator update has now fleshed out Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar and Andorra.

Ever since launch Microsoft Flight Simulator has been releasing frequent updates aimed at fleshing out certain regions and countries. The most recent one arrived in June with new details for 100 airports in the Nordic region, 77 new points of interest to explore, as well as a whole host of terrain updates to make the virtual version of the world as close to the real one as possible.

While all of these are certainly welcome updates, actually getting to examine and appreciate the additions in-game can be quite tricky as planes aren't exactly known for being able to stop and go at a moment's notice. Helicopters are, however, which is why I'm very happy to say that the developers have heard the thousands of requests and are currently looking to add them as a part of a major update!

Crimson Desert, Black Desert's MMO-free spin-off, was originally supposed to arrive in late 2021, but it now looks like that may have been a bit too optimistic. According to the newest developer update, Crimson Desert has far surpassed its original scope and is now in need of more time in order to get everything finished up and ready to go.

"We have decided that we need to dedicate more time to adding new ideas for an even deeper, more enriching game," elaborates the brief update. "Therefore, in order to create the best possible experience, all the while ensuring the health and safety of everyone involved in delivering the game, we have decided to delay Crimson Desert's release."

[Update #2]: MTG Arena is giving away free Premier Drafts entries and delaying Jumpstart: Historic Horizons. On the positive side, Historic Brawl is coming in a lot sooner than expected!

[Update]: Wizards of the Coast has revealed the full list of cards coming with the Jumpstart: Historic Horizons expansion.

It may have taken well over a year and countless requests from the community, but MTG Arena is now finally adding a dedicated Historic Brawl mode. It'll arrive alongside the Jumpstart: Historic Horizons update on August 12th, and unlike its previous incarnations this Historic Brawl will not be going away after a mere few days!

Best of all, we'll not only be getting Historic Brawl as a permanent format, but it'll also be the much more interesting 100-card variant. Considering how many awesome Modern-era cards are coming in with the Historic Horizons update, the 100-card minimum is definitely a welcome sight as I have no idea how I'd be able to fit all of my favorites otherwise!

Guild Wars 2 End of Dragons official artwork without logo

[Update]: End of Dragon's second beta preview event will show off the Elementalist based Catalyst, Warrior based Bladesworn, and Revenant based Vindicator on September 21, 2021.

Quite a bit of time has gone by since the original announcement, but I'm very happy to say that ArenaNet has now finally unveiled Guild Wars 2's third major expansion - End of Dragons. Besides being able to explore the distant land of Cantha, End of Dragons will also bring with it new elite specializations for all classes, a combat-focused turtle mount that will seat two players, new Strikes and challenges to bash your head against, a whole assortment of new items and cosmetics to collect, and naturally, a mysterious new storyline to uncover.

Rather than babble on, allow me to share with you two of the freshly posted previews. The first is a traditional trailer showcasing some of the fancy locations and important characters, while the second is a more hands-on preview showing off the actual gameplay along with developer commentary. [Update #2]: Wizards of the Coast has revealed the full list of cards coming with the Jumpstart: Historic Horizons expansion.

[Update]: MTG Arena is also permanently adding the long requested 100-card Historic Brawl game mode!

Even though the surprise has been spoiled by an accidental leak, I'm still quite happy to announce that MTG Arena will be adding Jumpstart: Historic Horizons on August 12th. This brand new Jumpstart format will bring with it 782 unique cards to collect, 372 of which will be entirely new to MTG Arena.

While the full list has not been announced just yet, many of these new cards will be fan-favorites from the Modern Horizons and Modern Horizons 2 sets. Perhaps most interestingly, however, Historic Horizons will also bring with it 31 new-to-Magic cards specifically designed with online play through MTG Arena in mind. Here's the sort of keywords you can expect to see on them:

Total War: Troy artwork showing off the Cyclops and Cerberus

[Update #2]: Total War: Pharaoh will be Creative Assembly's next mainline, historical grand strategy game.

[Update]: Total War: Troy has now been released onto Steam alongside the new Mythos expansion.

While Total War: Troy ended up being a pretty fun experience, especially once the Amazons update launched, it never really managed to grip me the same way Total War: Warhammer 2 did. Looking back at it I'd say this was primarily because Troy couldn't decide if it was going to be a historical or mythological game. Instead of sticking to one theme and polishing it up to a mirror sheen, Troy tried to please everyone which, as you might imagine, just ended up making it feel unfocused.

Quite a bit of time has gone by since then, but I'm happy to say that the developers will soon be making amends for that little mistake. As a part of the upcoming Mythos expansion Total War: Troy will not only add a whole assortment of mythological monsters and themed units, but also a fully fledged historical mode without any overpowered heroes beating up entire armies on their own!

[Update #2]: Pre-orders of the upcoming Dead Space remake will come with a copy of the excellent Dead Space 2.

[Update]: We finally have a date! The Dead Space remake will be launching onto PC and consoles on January 27th, 2023!

While all rumors of Dead Space 4 were squashed many years ago, I'm very happy to announce that there is now hope that the series will make a triumphant return! I say this because EA has just revealed that not only is Dead Space getting re-released for PC and modern consoles, but that this new version will be rebuilt from the ground up as a fully fledged remake!

The exact details are unfortunately still few and far between, but it seems like the focus will be on offering a deeper and more immersive experience. You can also expect to see greatly enhanced visuals, various gameplay improvements, as well as a bunch of quality of life features to round everything out.
