Apex Legends artwork showing off the new legend Seer

[Update]: Season 10 has now arrived, and unfortunately it seems like Seer is ridiculously powerful, to the point where it looks like everyone is fighting over who gets to play him.

If you've had your fill of the smaller events and are now itching for something a bit more substantial, you'll be happy to hear that Apex Legends' Season 10 update is now nearly upon us. Once the Emergence update goes live on August 3rd it'll bring with it the mysterious Seer as a new Legend, Rampart's very own Rampage LMG, a whole bunch of changes to the World's Edge map, as well as ranked Arenas!

While the exact details are still few and far between, you can get a little bit of a peek at some of the changes through the recently posted launch trailer. I'll also throw in Seer's story-focused cinematic short because it's quite a gorgeous one! Have a gander:

[Update #2]: MTG Arena is also permanently adding the long requested 100-card Historic Brawl game mode!

[Update]: The Jumpstart: Historic Horizons format will bring with it 372 new-to-MTGA cards!

In an announcement that was accidentally posted, and then immediately removed, Wizards of the Coast have revealed that they are bringing in Jumpstart: Historic Horizons to MTG Arena on August 12. This new Jumpstart event will bring with it hundreds of cards from Modern Horizons and Modern Horizons 2, along with 31 new-to-Magic cards specifically designed with the Historic format in mind!

Needless to say, this little leak has resulted in quite a few arguments among the MTG community, with the main sticking point being the MTG Arena exclusive cards. Personally, I'm of the opinion that MTG Arena is so different from the paper version of Magic that it's essentially its own beast, so treating it as such and releasing cards specifically designed for it makes a lot of sense.

[Update #2]: New World devs have announced their plans for major updates throughout 2022.

[Update]: New World has been delayed yet again, this time until September 28, 2021.

After being delayed time and time again, it seems that Amazon's New World MMO has now finally sorted out all of its major issues and is getting ready for its full release on August 31, 2021. So in order to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible, New World has now launched a closed beta test that will last until August 2nd.

If you would like to give it a chance for yourself, there are two ways to get into the beta. The first and most obvious one involves pre-ordering New World on either Amazon or Steam for guaranteed access, while the second one involves signing up for the beta and hoping you get lucky. That said, the random beta invites will be flying out all throughout the event, so even if you're reading this fairly late into the beta test there's still a chance you can get in.

[Update]: Overwatch's August balance patch has beefed up Genji, Soldier 76, Roadhog and Moira

While most of the development team is still working on Overwatch 2, Blizzard recently added one of the greatest features Overwatch has ever seen - cross-platform multiplayer! However, despite that being a rather monumental task, it looks like it hasn't slowed down the pace of regular updates for even a second. As such you might be surprised to hear that the annual Summer Games update has just now been unleashed, and will be running until August 10th.

Much like last year Summer Games 2021 brings with it a plethora of themed cosmetics to collect, three weekly challenges that award additional epic quality skins, as well as some rather curious updates to Lucioball. Here's what all of it looks like in action:

Steam Deck official photo showing the device from up close

[Update #2]: It's official, the Steam Deck will be launching on February 25, 2022!

[Update]: Valve has pushed back the launch of the Steam Deck to February 2022.

Given the popularity of the Nintendo Switch, and Valve's fascinating obsession with hardware development, it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise to hear that Valve is now working on their very own handheld gaming PC - the Steam Deck. As the name would suggest the Steam Deck will allow you to play all of your Steam games on the go, while still serving as a standard gaming PC while plugged in.

Judging by the technical specs it seems like the Steam Deck will be fairly a powerful device, though obviously nowhere close to an actual gaming PC. This was to be expected given that the Steam Deck ranges in price from ~420€ to ~680€ while a modern graphics card will set you back that much on its own. So if you plan on getting a Steam Deck purely to play the newest and fanciest games out there, expect to make some hefty graphical sacrifices in order to get them to run smoothly.

Fall Guys artwork for the adventuring Season 5 update

[Update]: Fall Guys' party themed Season 6 is launching on November 30, 2021 alongside cross-platform progression.

If you're itching for a bit of wacky nonsense to distract you from the summer heat, you'll be happy to hear that Fall Guys' Season 5 update is now nearly upon us. Once it arrives this July 20th Season 5 will bring with it six new rounds, duo and trio game modes, as well as a whole assortment of new obstacles to overcome and cutesy cosmetics to collect.

You can get a pretty good idea of what all of this looks like in action through two of the recent trailers. The first one is the cinematic short setting up the whole adventuring theme, while the second one is a more gameplay focused preview. Have a gander, they're both rather easy on the eyes:

The Steam version of NieR: Automata has sadly been a technical mess ever since it first launched. Between strangely implemented resolution settings, glitchy anti-aliasing and the broken aspect ratio during cutscenes, playing through NieR: Automata was a bit of a nightmarish experience without mods to fix all of the nonsense.

With that in mind, I am incredibly happy to say that the developers have now returned in order to fix up most of the long-standing issues and bring the Steam version up to the same level as the Xbox Game Pass one. Here's what has been changed:

Syberia 2 screenshot of a snowy environment

In celebration of France's Bastille Day, as well as to honor the late comic book artist and developer Benoît Sokal, GOG is currently giving away two of his classic point & click adventure games - Syberia 1 and 2. Simply head on over to GOG, add the two games to your account, and you'll be good to go after a short download.

The one catch, as always, is that the giveaway is time limited. As such, you'll need to add the two games to your account before 1pm UTC on July 17, after which you'll be able to play them whenever you want.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide screenshot of the Chaos forces

[Update #2]: My review for Darktide is now live and, long story short, it's as rough and fascinating as the world it takes place in!

[Update]: Darktide has revealed the fourth and final Psyker class in a brand new trailer.

The pandemic has caused an unprecedented amount of delays over the past year, and sadly today we have a brand new one to add to the pile. This time around it's the co-op focused Warhammer 40,000: Darktide that is getting its release date pushed back. So instead of launching in 2021 as previously expected, Darktide will be arriving onto PC and Xbox in early 2022.

"We have a responsibility to deliver the best game we possibly can, and frankly we need more time to accomplish this goal," reads the brief update. "It's no secret that building a game during a pandemic is a challenge and we are not immune to this."

[Update]: The update has now arrived, and I'm happy to say it has brought with it one additional surprise - the removal of the often-controversial Denuvo DRM!

Ever since Nier: Automata landed onto Steam it was plagued with a whole assortment of technical problems. Unfortunately, neither Square Enix nor PlatinumGames did much of anything to fix these issues over the years, and so players were forced to rely on third-party mods in order to achieve basic functionality like making the game run at the resolution it was set to.

Thankfully, all of this nonsense will be changing for the better in the near future. As a part of the upcoming July 15 update, NieR: Automata will be fixing many of its long-standing technical issues and finally making the Steam version as solid as the more recent Xbox Game Pass one.
