Id Has Announced A "Wide Variety Of Advanced Settings" For The PC Version Of Doom

By Ash

Doom PC advanced settings have been announced

If you've played the recent Doom open beta you most likely noticed how the advanced options were completely missing on PC, the framerate was capped, FOV couldn't be increased, and so forth. This combined with the gameplay being less like the arena shooters of old and more like Halo left a lot of PC players with plenty of anger to vent, and only one place to do so, Doom's beta page on Steam which ended up with around 8,000 negative reviews.

After seeing such an overwhelmingly poor response, Id and Bethesda quickly posted a message detailing all of the ways they plan to address PC issues, as well as what sort of graphical features we can expect to see in the release version.

Borderlands 4 is Gearbox's next game

While this should come as no surprise given the rampant popularity of the shoot & loot genre, its still good to hear that Gearbox aims to tackle Borderlands 3 as their next game.

This information comes from Eurogamer who attended the PAX East panel and found out that Gearbox will personally be developing the fourth game in the Borderlands series, with Gearbox's main writer Mikey Neumann (whom you might know as Scooter in-game) and Battleborn art director Scott Kester at the helm.

Valve Is Experimenting With 'Prime' Matchmaking For CS:GO

CS:GO's prime matchmaking will require you to input your phone number

[Update]: Without any prior warning, Valve has just unleashed Counter-Strike 2 as a free update!

Anyone that has played CS:GO for a long period of time will instantly tell you that the two most annoying things you can face off against are obviously cheaters, but also smurfs, skilled players using a secondary account with a much lower rating in order to stomp all over the opposition.

While the recent patch notes don't mention anything about this, Valve has added an experimental 'Prime' matchmaking mode that's here to ensure only legitimate accounts face off against each other. Here's the gist of it, taken from the 'leaked FAQ' found within CS:GO's files:

  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

By Ash

The Nostalrius petition will be delivered to Blizzard by the original WoW Team Lead

Its truly impressive to see so many people rally around Nostalrius in order to convince Blizzard to finally bring back the Vanilla World of Warcraft servers, with all of their charm and flaws included.

The community outcry has been so loud that Mark Kern, the original Team Lead for World of Warcraft, got involved and stated that he would personally deliver the petition to Blizzard if it manages to reach 200,000 signatures. As you might imagine from the title, it has not only reached its goal, but has continued to grow past it, and as promised, Mark Kern has released the details of his plan in a brief blog post:

The Witcher 3's Blood And Wine Expansion Is Delightfully Colorful

The Witcher 3's Blood and Wine expansion features some great looking scenery

After a very long silence about The Witcher 3's Blood and Wine expansion we've finally started receiving some actual proof of its existence, first in the form of a leaked release date, and now through some delightfully colorful locations.

The screenshots you will see below are from Geralt's final 20 hour trip across the entirely new in-game region of Toussaint, a province in Nilfgaard that's completely sheltered from the war that rages further North, where carefree indulgence and knightly rituals hide an ancient and bloody secret, as they always seem to do in these sort of scenarios. Have a look, and if you're interested in seeing a bigger and more detailed version of any of the images, simply click on it:

Steam is soon going to start accepting Bitcoins

This shouldn't come as much of a surprise given that a translation server leak back in February showed text strings that directly pointed towards Steam implementing services to deal with Bitcoin payments.

Further proof comes from a recently leaked post that was made on the private developer forum where a Valve representative announced that Steam would start accepting payments via Bitcoins. Here's a screenshot from the post:

'The Story Of Overwatch' Video Goes Over The Fall Of Blizzard's Titan MMO, And The Rise Of Overwatch

The Story of Overwatch: The Fall of Titan is an excellent three part video series

Blizzard's Titan MMO was supposed to be the next big thing when it comes to massively multiplayer games, and so broad in scope it would put World of Warcraft to shame, but unfortunately it ended up going through a troubled development process and was eventually canceled. All that work didn't go to waste, however, as Overwatch rose from its ashes and created something truly unique, a game that has managed to make countless thousands go berserk whenever someone says "beta key".

But did you ever wonder what really caused the Titan to fall, and what series of events led to the inception of Overwatch? If so, I have some good news because it is exactly these questions that GameSpot's three part series 'The Story of Overwatch' goes over in immense detail, backed up with interviews from all of the key Blizzard members involved in both projects.

If you're interested in the fascinating world of game development, or simply want to take a peek behind the veil, I fully recommend you give it a watch. Its a bit long at 20 minutes, but it offers such a unique perspective on Blizzard's inner workings that its hard to say it wasn't worth every second. Have a look:
