ReCore's robot and main character

While I wish I could tell you otherwise, the public reception for ReCore has been a resounding 'meh' so far. There are numerous problems with the gameplay, most notably how quickly it becomes repetitive, but also a whole bunch of technical issues just to add that little bit of extra 'flavor' to the whole mess.

With all of this in mind, you would have to be insane to even consider blindly purchasing ReCore - even though you might just be one of the lucky ones that doesn't have any technical issues, or even problems with the gameplay! Thankfully, there is a solution to this little conundrum, and it comes in the form of the recently posted playable demo.

Wasteland 3 official artwork

[Update]: Turn-Based RPG Wasteland 3 has now made its way to PC and consoles!

The Fig crowdfunding campaign for Wasteland 3 begun only a couple of days ago, and already it has managed to reach its lofty $2,750,000 goal! It is important to mention that $2,2 million of the current $2,9 million fund has been gathered through investments, but even with that considered this is an amazing success. I guess old school RPGs aren't as niche as they once were!

Since Wasteland 3 has managed to reach its funding goal within a mere three days, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise to hear that the developers have already released the first batch of stretch goals in order to keep the hype-train rolling on. But before we move on to stretch goals, here's the recently posted gameplay demo - just to give you an idea of what Wasteland 3 is all about:

Mafia 3 screenshot showcasing some colorful action

As is tradition for most AAA games these days, Mafia 3 has arrived to the PC with a whole slue of technical problems. The graphics are blurry, the field of view is needlessly restricted, enemy AI is apparently unbelievably dumb, and most surprisingly for me, the framerate was locked to 30 FPS on launch!

While most of these issues still remain, the developers have just recently posted a patch that adds support for both 60 and unlimited frames-per-second options on the PC. Mafia 3 still won't look like much, but at the very least you'll be able to enjoy the blurry graphics in smooth 60 FPS (and above). Since there aren't any patch notes, here's the brief message the developers posted alongside this update:

Dishonored 2's Emily screenshot

Bethesda has frequently mentioned how both Corvo and Emily will have slightly different sets of powers, but they never really went beyond that simple throwaway line. This is where the recent 'Daring Escapes' video comes into play as it not only showcases the more action-orientated side of Dishonored 2, but also the key differences between Emily and Corvo.

To put things simply, Corvo is a much more methodical character that focuses primarily on executing plans to perfection through the use of powerful spells such as Possession and Bend Time. On the other hand, Emily features an extremely aggressive playstyle that requires you to get in people's faces, take down multiple opponents at once, and quickly make an escape through the use of various shadowy powers. Since all of this is a bit hard to grasp through text alone, here's the 'Daring Escapes' video:

Tales of Berseria screenshot showcasing numerous characters

The Tales series only recently crossed over to the PC, and if you're a fan of JRPGs but have someone managed to completely miss them, go give both Symphonia and Zestiria a try - they are one of the better examples of the genre. The reason I'm saying all of this now is because Bandai Namco just announced that Tales of Berseria, the newest entry in the series, will be arriving on January 24th in the US, and January 27th in Europe. In other words, you have plenty of time to become accustomed to the series before Berseria rolls around the corner.

While concrete information is still hard to come by, mostly because Bandai Namco is saving everything for a pre-release hype-train, the announcement trailer should clue you in on what to expect from Berseria. Have a look:

Knights of the Eternal Throne artwork featuring a battle between mother and daughter

I've never actually played Star Wars: The Old Republic beyond the starting zone, mostly because the combat just doesn't gel with me, but when it comes to the cinematics I am a massive fan! The video Bioware prepared for the Knights of the Fallen Empire expansion still remains one of the best pieces of Star Wars fiction I've seen outside of the movies, and the most recent cinematic trailer for Knights of the Eternal Throne isn't far off either.

Without spoiling too much, the video below deals with the most common theme in all of humanity - betrayal - something that apparently still runs deep in the royal families of the far distant future. Have a look, its well worth the 6 minutes it takes to watch:

Hearthstone's chess board concept

If you're a fan of game design, or are simply curios about what exactly goes into the creation of a Hearthstone Adventure, you're in luck as Blizzard has just recently posted a rather interesting article on just that topic. It concerns the most recent Hearthstone Adventure, Kharazan, and its most memorable boss - the chess encounter!

You can read the full article by heading over to the Blizzard website. However, if you're still not sure all of this is worth your time, here's a small snippet that goes over the very first version of the chess encounter and what exactly the team tried to accomplish with it:

For those of you of that might not have been paying attention, ReCore released last month to some rather mediocre reviews. While there are numerous problems with the gameplay, the biggest reason for such a lukewarm reception have been the technical issues - most notably the extreme loading times, annoying glitches, and frequent crashes.

Thankfully, the developers haven't been slacking off the past few week as they have just recently updated ReCore with a whole bunch of improvements. You can expect to see decreased loading times, improved enemy textures, the ability to die without the game going completely haywire, and various other little fixes and additions. Since there aren't any actual patch notes, mostly because this was a purely technical update, allow me to share with you what the developers wanted to accomplish with this patch:

If you've never had the opportunity to witness the glory of the Dark Souls series, consider yourself extremely lucky as you can now grab most of it for a relatively small price. And best of all, Dark Souls 1 and 2 come with all of the DLC packs included, so if you're looking to get the most value out of your money the Souls series is a safe bet!

So what are we looking at here? You can grab the full version of Dark Souls 1 at a 75% discount which brings the price down to $5/€5; the remastered version of Dark Souls 2 at the same discount for $10/€10; and finally you can grab the base version of Dark Souls 3 at a 35% discount for $39/€39. Since the DLC for Dark Souls 3 hasn't even come out yet, there is unfortunately no discount available, but I wouldn't worry too much about that as Dark Souls 3 has plenty of content in it as is.

New Beyond Good & Evil 2 artwork

If you're wondering where exactly the "again" comes from, you might be surprised to hear that Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been in 'development' for nearly a decade now. And this wasn't just any half-assed project the developers announced and then never touched again - it even had a proper gameplay trailer! Unfortunately for the fans of the 'series', the developers haven't released any new information about Beyond Good & Evil 2 for many years now, so I think its safe to assume that specific project has by now been canceled.

There is some hope on the horizon, however, as Ubisoft has just recently come out to officially announce that their Montpellier Studio is now working on a brand new Beyond Good & Evil game! Since there isn't much information to talk about right now, by which I mean there isn't any information at all, allow me to share with you the old trailer for Beyond Good & Evil 2 - purely as a showcase of what the series was originally going to be like:
