UnderRail: Expedition official artwork

[Update #2]: The Expedition expansion has now finally arrived, and it's actually quite good!

[Update]: After a 'little' delay, UnderRail's Expedition expansion is coming this July 22nd!

For those of you that haven't heard of UnderRail, its an old school, isometric turn-based CRPG with a frankly ridiculous amount of player customization options. As I've noted in my review, UnderRail is a bit clunky at times and quite hard to get into, but should you survive the first few hours you'll find a wast and complex world to explore - one that's definitely worth the time and effort for RPG fans!

I'd recommend you get on that as soon as possible because Stygian Software just announced a massive new expansion for UnderRail! In Expedition you'll be able to take a break from the dreary metro-crawling and take a boat to the infamous Black Sea, a gigantic underground body of water. Since this is a CRPG we're talking about you won't be going there on a vacation, you'll instead be investigating ruins of an age long past, fighting against hordes of hostile beasts and pirates, and trying to uncover "something far more sinister than all of those".

Clockwork Empires official artwork

After two years in Early Access it appears that Clockwork Empires, a colony management sim from the developers behind Dungeons of Dredmor, is just about ready to be officially released. Since this is Gaslamp Games we're talking about, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise to hear that Clockwork Empires isn't your standard management sim. Sure, you'll need to actually make certain that your tiny colony survives the harsh winters and scorching summers, but you'll also need to deal with cannibalistic cults, Lovecraftian horrors, and other such spawns of madness - because living in the middle of the wilderness just isn't exciting enough!

I can already imagine the confused looks on some of your faces, so allow me to show you one of the teaser trailers for Clockwork Empires. While it won't give you an amazing idea of what the gameplay is all about, it will help you understand the bizarre world of Clockwork Empires:

If you're fan of games that don't hold back their punches, but also of copious amounts of pixelated blood and other bodily fluids adorning all of the nearby walls, you might be interested in the recently released Butcher. Its a fast-paced, Doom-inspired 2D shooter that features about as much gore and violence as you could possibly cram into tiny pixelated artwork.

Now I'm sure some of you are thinking I'm exaggerating here, I mean how violent can a 2D shooter truly be, in which case I would like to present you exhibit A - the launch trailer. Have a look:

If you're a fan of stylish puzzle-platformers, especially those that rely on time manipulation to add an extra edge to their challenges, you might want to keep an eye out for Clockwork - a game about a lonely mechanical boy and his magical, time-bending watch adventuring across a variety of steampunk-inspired levels.

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, and a video probably even more than that, allow me to show you one of the more recent trailers. It should give you the best idea of what Clockwork really is, and more importantly, if its the sort of thing you'd be interested in. Have a look:

Shu screenshot showcasing a Storm monster

If you're a fan of colorful and stylish 2.5D platformers then you might be interested in Shu - a platforming adventure that will have you explore a variety of strange landscapes, forever pursued by a monstrous and unrelenting Storm. And unlike most storms out there, this one seems to have teeth!

Before I say anything else, perhaps it would be for the best if you just checked out the launch trailer. It should give you a good idea of what Shu is all about, and what exactly do the developers mean with "Can you outrun the end of the world?". Have a look:

Caravan gameplay screenshot

While I've certainly established numerous trade caravans during my various Civilization playthroughs, I can't honestly say I've ever wanted to put myself in the shoes of the poor sods that had to trudge through an entire desert in order to bring me untold riches! I can't deny, however, that the idea is somewhat appealing given the rather extreme conditions.

If you're of the same opinion you'll be glad to hear that Caravan, Deadalic's survival /exploration/trading hybrid set in the Arabian Desert, has recently launched on Steam. Rather than just blabber on, allow me to show you the launch trailer. It should give you a good idea of what to expect:

Industry Manager - Future Technologies screenshot showcasing various companies

If you've browsed through Steam the past few months you may have noticed an overwhelming amount of games whose one and only gameplay idea is to simulate an otherwise mundane aspect of real life. There's a simulator that lets you pilot a forklift, a simulator that lets you experience the thrills of cleaning the streets, and there's even a simulator that puts you behind the wheel of a bus driver - endlessly circling the same routes until either you or the game finally succumb!

Thankfully, the simulator I would like to bring to your attention today is much more interesting. Rather than give you a glimpse at some of the most boring aspects of today's life, Industry Manager - Future Technologies instead focuses on allowing you to create your own business, establish your own production facilities, and naturally, run your competition straight into the ground! If you're wondering what in the world this might look like, here's the recently posted trailer:

Toxikk arena shooter screenshot of multiplayer

If the modern Doom's multiplayer has left you disappointed and more than eager to play a shooter modeled after the late 90s and early 2000s FPS classics, you might be in luck as Toxikk just recently appeared on Steam. According to its release announcement it features no classes, no loadouts, and no bullshit! Its just you, an entire arsenal of explosive weaponry, and a whole bunch of target dummies players to use them on.

Since trying to describe an FPS game in words alone is a pointless task, especially when it comes to fast paced arena shooters, allow me to instead show you the most recent trailer. It should give you a good idea of where Toxikk draws its influences from, and more importantly, what's the gameplay all about:

Edmund McMillen's 0uroboros game

Edmund McMillen, the mastermind behind The Binding of Isaac, has announced that his brand new action-platformer now has an actual name - 0uroboros. It stars the same protagonist as one of McMillen's previous games, Time Fcuk, though 0uroboros is not its sequel... or even a puzzle game by any stretch of the imagination.

So what exactly is 0uroboros? According to McMillen, its "an action based platformer & shooter with random level generation and the like, ala binding of isaac or spelunky, but… off." Since that might be a fairly hard concept to grasp from words alone, he also provided a brief gameplay trailer. Have a look:

Mother Russia Bleeds gameplay screenshot

If you ever found yourself itching for an ultra-violent beat 'em up, one that doesn't shy away from gore and other nastiness, you'll be quite happy to hear that Mother Russia Bleeds has now been officially released. While the gameplay is fairly similar to many other beat 'em ups, most notably Streets of Rage, it is the art style and overall theme that sets Mother Russia Bleeds apart from the rest.

Since trying to explain an art style in only a couple of paragraphs is a fool's venture, allow me to instead show you the recently posted launch trailer. The video is right below, but do be warned, it contains plenty of cartoony violence... and I do mean plenty! Have a look:
