If you're fan of games that don't hold back their punches, but also of copious amounts of pixelated blood and other bodily fluids adorning all of the nearby walls, you might be interested in the recently released Butcher. Its a fast-paced, Doom-inspired 2D shooter that features about as much gore and violence as you could possibly cram into tiny pixelated artwork.

Now I'm sure some of you are thinking I'm exaggerating here, I mean how violent can a 2D shooter truly be, in which case I would like to present you exhibit A - the launch trailer. Have a look:

As for exhibit B? Well, let's just say that your mission in Butcher is to hunt down the last remnants of humanity... and more or less annihilate anything and everything that moves. In order to do so you'll be able to equip numerous weapons (everything ranging from chainsaws to grenade launchers) and head out to a variety of depressing locations such as: underground hideouts, post-apocalyptic wastelands, overgrown jungles, and other such havens pesky humans might be hiding in.

However, while you may be death incarnate, your opponents are not going to go down without a fight! What I'm trying to say with this is that Butcher is hard - so hard that the easiest difficulty simply reads 'hard'. So if you do decide to grab Butcher, make sure you're well aware of this as playing too carelessly with leave you dying just as often as your quarry.

If none of this has scared you away from Butcher, you can find it over at Steam, GOG, and the Humble Store.
