[Update]: Rocket League has gone free-to-play alongside a major new update.

While I personally don't mind microtransactions, I do have a lot to complain about when it comes to loot boxes. They are always stuffed to the brim with garbage, the chances of you getting the item you want are exceedingly small, while the actual price you'd have to pay to buy a specific item is far higher than that item should ever really cost. In short, the whole system is just an exploitative mess.

As such, I am very happy to say that Rocket League will be getting ride of the whole system! According to the latest announcement, they will be removing all paid, randomized loot boxes, and replacing them with a system that always shows you exactly what you'll be buying in advance.

[Update #2]: I'm happy to say that World of Warcraft: Classic has now been officially released and that the servers are practically overflowing with players!

[Update]: World of Warcraft: Classic's character creation and name reservation services are now live!

If you're looking to give World of Warcraft: Classic a try before it officially releases on August 26th, you're in luck as Blizzard has now unleashed the final stress test. You might want to hurry, however, as the stress test will only be live until August 9th!

Much like before, an active World of Warcraft subscription is needed to enter, though there are other requirements. As for the in-game restrictions, the only one that's worth mentioning is that the maximum character level is 15. While it doesn't sound like much, I highly doubt most people will even end up getting that far, especially considering how short the stress test truly is.

[Update]: World of Warcraft: Classic's character creation and name reservation services are now live!

The greatest challenge in any MMO aren't the end-game raids or even high-level PvP battles, but rather the simple process of choosing the perfect name for your character. After all, you're going to invest hundreds of hours into them, so the name clearly has to be a good one... or at least one that's available after you've already lost 20 minutes cycling through variations of all of your favorites!

In order to sidestep this problem, as well as give the most dedicated players a chance to reserve their favorite names, Blizzard will be opening up character creation on August 12th at 3:00pm PDT. As expected, in order to create your WoW Classic characters ahead of time, you will need an active World of Warcraft subscription.

[Update]: Vermintide 2's Winds of Magic expansion has now arrived for PC players. The console versions are still under development, though no release date has been announced just yet.

After a very long time with no release date, Fatshark has recently announced that Vermintide 2's Winds of Magic expansion will be coming next week - on August 13th. However, in a bit of a surprising turn of events, they have now also made the expansion fully playable to those that have pre-ordered it. In other words, the true release date isn't August 13th, it's right now!

When it comes to content, the expansion is divided into two parts: the free update and the DLC itself. On the free front you're looking at a massive overhaul of the combat system, five new levels to acquire, a rework and rebalance of the talent system, as well as some lovely new banter between the heroes. Best of all, if the host has the expansion installed, you will also be able to meet the Beastmen in your matches!

[Update]: Apex Legends' much-requested Solos mode has now arrived alongside new map additions and cosmetics.

Out of all the game modes and features requested by the Apex Legends community, Solos and Duos are probably at the very top of the list. However, despite their popularity and the constant forum posts asking when the two modes are coming, Respawn has never really shown much interest in bringing them to life... until now!

According to a recently posted announcement, Apex Legends will be getting Solos as a limited time event! The details are unfortunately few and far between, but what I can tell you for certain is that Solos will be available from August 13th to August 27th.

[Update]: Overwatch's newest main tank Sigma has now arrived alongside the long-awaited Role Queue!

After being rumored and teased for quite a few months, Overwatch's Role Queue has landed onto the test servers a little while ago. It won't be staying there for much longer, however, as Blizzard has already announced that Role Queue (and most likely the new hero Sigma) will be coming to the live servers next week!

To be specific, Role Queue will be available on August 13th as a part of a short beta season, while the full implementation will be coming on September 1st. That said, the short beta season is expected to be pretty much the same as the real deal, so if you're like me and you're longing for a little bit of consistency in your games, it will be well worth checking out.

DuckTales: Remastered official artwork without the logo

[Update]: DuckTales: Remastered has now once again made its way to digital storefronts!

If you ever wanted to pick up a digital version of the DuckTales remaster, this would be your last chance to do so. According to an announcement by Capcom, DuckTales: Remastered will be leaving digital storefronts and will no longer be available for purchase from August 8th onward.

The reason behind this rather drastic move, as is increasingly common these days, are licensing issues. Thankfully, if you already own a copy or buy one before the cut-off date, you'll still be able to download and play DuckTales: Remastered at any time you want.

[Update #2]: Vermintide 2's Winds of Magic expansion has now fully arrived for PC players. The console versions are still under development, though no release date has been announced just yet.

[Update]: Vermintide 2's Winds of Magic expansion is already playable for those that have pre-ordered!

Vermintide 2's Winds of Magic expansion is set to arrive this August, bringing with it an absolutely massive array of changes. We're getting a complete overhaul of the combat system, a whole batch of new talents, Beastmen as new enemies, Cataclysm as a new and brutal difficulty setting, as well as pre-set Weaves in order to give challenge-seeking players a chance to prove themselves to the world.

However, as you might imagine given the quantity and severity of the changes, not all of the additions have been received positively by the playerbase. So in order to ease some of the concerns, as well as to showcase just what they plan to do with Winds of Magic, Fatshark has now released a rather lengthy "note from the team" discussing the expansion and some of its potential pitfalls.

If you currently have a bit of free time and would like something to help you resolve that little 'problem', you might want to check out Epic's latest giveaway. It's a pretty darn good one as well, given that it contains both For Honor and Alan Wake!

All you need to do is head on over to the Epic Games Store, go through the 'purchasing' process, and you'll be ready to play in no time. You don't even need to install the games, just make sure you add them to your account before the giveaway ends on August 9th and they'll be yours to keep. It really is as simple as that.

Monster Hunter: World's Iceborne expansion artwork of a frost dragon

[Update #2]: Monster Hunter: World - Iceborne has now arrived, though not without a couple of nasty issues that will need to be resolved over the coming weeks.

[Update]: To help new players reach the Iceborne expansion as quickly as possible, Capcom has now released some incredibly powerful catch-up gear to the PC version of Monster Hunter: World!

Monster Hunter: World's Iceborne expansion will be coming to consoles this September 6th, bringing with it a whole bunch of new content. Expect to see a new storyline with even more delicious food cutscenes, an entirely new region to explore, a massive pile of new gear to craft, and obviously, a plethora of new and returning monsters to tackle!

The good news doesn't end there, however, as Capcom has now finally announced the fate of the PC version. According to the fairly brief Twitter message, Monster Hunter World - Iceborne will be coming to PC in January 2020, though no exact release date has been revealed just yet.
