The final day of the Steam Summer Sale is now upon us, and if you haven't grabbed the games you were ogling for the past week, now would be prime the time to do so. Since the sale isn't over just yet, allow me to give you a few more recommendations to hopefully guide you towards some interesting games to pass the summer heat with.
As before, all of the games on this list have been chosen based on two simple criteria, their quality and the depth of their discount, while the order in which they appear is completely and utterly random:

The original Planetside was one of the most unique games I've ever played, a nearly perfect blend of MMO and FPS elements, but its heyday had long since past and without a consistent patching schedule the population slowly withered away into nothingness.
As you would expect, this downward spiral eventually resulted in Daybreak announcing Planetside's retirement on July 1, along with a special event designed to give Planetside 1 the "sendoff it deserves". While I unfortunately couldn't spare the time to watch my teenage years go up in flame, Steven Messner made a recording of Planetside's final few moments, and despite not being invested in the game for many years now, I can't help but feel an immense sorrow at its loss. Have a look:

The end of the Steam Summer Sale is nearly upon us, and with only two more days to go I would suggest you pick up the games you were interested in before you lose the chance to do so for the next couple of months. Until the sale ends, however, I am going to stick around and offer you a few more intriguing games to check out.
As before, here are my recommendations on which games to grab during today's Summer Sale. I've chosen every single one of them based around two simple criteria, their quality and the depth of their discounts, while the actual order in which the games will appear is still completely random:

Overwatch's Competitive Mode only came out a couple of days ago, and while I've met the occasional rage-o-holic the quality of the gameplay has been a massive improvement over Quick Play. Unfortunately, while the actual games are enjoyable, the ranking system behind them is a complete and utter mess.
Its so broken that I'm currently dropping through the ranks despite maintaining a ~65-70% win rate, achieving at least a couple of gold medals each match, and never leaving a single game or suffering from a disconnect. All of this is caused by numerous issues that result in wins giving barely any MMR (matchmaking rating) and losses taking away an absurdly high amount. So where exactly lie the problems, and how could Blizzard go about correcting them?

Layers of Fear, the horror game that blurs the lines between madness and artistic vision, will soon be giving you a chance to experience the painter's house through an entirely new perspective, that of the painter's daughter.
The Inheritance DLC will allow you to relieve the full scope of the tragedy that has swallowed up the family, face the memories of the past, and partake in the madness the father has bestowed upon those around him. Here's the recently posted trailer to properly set the mood:

I've first run across ELEX back in May when its official website launched, and while the concept of another RPG from the creators of the Gothic and Risen series intrigued me greatly, there unfortunately wasn't much information to go on, especially in terms of the story.
Thankfully, Piranha Bytes has recently come out and explained the general premise behind their open-world RPG. Its going to be set in a post-apocalyptic science fantasy universe filled with complex and interest characters, mutated creatures, deep moral choices, and plenty of action as well.

We're currently on Day 9 of the Steam Summer Sale, and I'm afraid to say that there isn't much more to go. The sale, along with its onslaught of discounts will disappear on July 4, so let's not waste too much time.
As before, here are my recommendations on which games to grab during today's Summer Sale. I've chosen all of the following games based around two simple criteria, their quality and the depth of their discounts, while the actual order in which they appear is still completely random:

After 10 years with Blizzard, Diablo 3's previous Game Director Jay Wilson left the company last month in order to focus on his writing career. While it was never confirmed whether the community backlash over Diablo 3's once lacking features played any part in his retirement, I can certainly guarantee you that it wasn't a pleasant thing to endure, but such is the life of a Game Director behind one of Blizzard's biggest franchises.
With Jay Wilson now gone from Blizzard, there is apparently a need for another experienced Game Director to step up to the plate and "lead the Diablo series into the future", as noted on the recently updated job posting on Blizzard's official website. While that alone might not be significant enough, the fact that they are hiring a Game Director for a new and unannounced Diablo project is quite intriguing indeed. Here's the brief quote describing the position:

A couple of months have passed since its original release, but Street Fighter V's story mode has finally appeared as a part of the free "A Shadow Falls" DLC. Along with the story mode comes Update 1.04 with two new characters, a couple of new stages and costumes, matchmaking improvements, and the introduction of the in-game Currency Shop.
While the story premise seems to be about as ridiculous as it gets, it does allow you to watch your favorite characters beat the ever-living daylight out of each other in various in-game cinematics, and for a fighting game I'd say that is more than enough. Here's the trailer to give you an idea of just how cheesy all of it is:

Blood Bowl 2, an insane combination of American football and Warhammer brutality, is getting a brand new DLC later this month. Since one of the biggest problems on the field is getting your star player's head caved in, why not instead recruit an entire team of skeletons, ghouls, zombies, mummies, and other such undying abominations. They even come pre-killed!
The Undead DLC will be given out for free to all owners of Blood Bowl 2 on the day of its release, while those that purchase the game afterwards will need to shell out €7/$7 for their chance at undeath. Besides the Undead, there are currently two more DLC teams planned for Blood Bowl 2: Necro and Nurgle. The same arrangement works for them as well, so if you own the game on the date of their release, you will get them for free.
