Gabe Newel, or rather Gaben, artwork

After a few weeks of teasers, rumors, and wild theories the Steam Summer Sale has now finally arrived, bringing with it a ridiculous amount of discounted games. However, while that is certainly a good thing, it is not exactly easy to choose only a couple of games when you have thousands upon thousands strewn before you.

In an effort to help out with this little 'problem', and also showcase some great games you might not have otherwise even looked at, I have devised a brief list consisting of five games you should consider grabbing on Day 7 of the 2017 Steam Summer Sale. Without further ado, let's begin:

Yooka-Laylee official artwork

As you're probably well aware by now Yooka-Laylee launched with some rather unfortunate issues. The camera was slow and inconsistent, most of the transformations completely impossible to control, the 'dialogue' assaulted your eardrums without the ability to skip it quickly, and the first boss was by far and wide the most annoying enemy to fight in the entire game due to all of the previously mentioned issues.

Thankfully, the newly released update boasts fixes and improvements to most of the problems I encountered during my review! The overall patch notes are fairly short and concise, so allow me to list them out for you along with a couple of highlights if you just want to know the important stuff:

Planet Coaster Summer Update screenshot of fireworks and new decorations

After being teased for a little while Planet Coaster's Summer Update has now finally arrived. It brings with it a variety of fireworks to celebrate any occasion from Fourth of July to New Year, a whole bunch of new rides and rollercoasters, new video and image scenery to spruce up your park, as well as custom biomes so you can really go wild with your designs.

Since simply talking about fireworks and rollercoasters is a bit of a pointless venture, allow me to instead show you what they look like in-game through the recently posted update trailer. Have a look:

Beyond Good and Evil 2 official artwork showing the main characters

[Update]: Ubisoft has shared a brief update on the state of Beyond Good & Evil 2 in 2020.

After being strung along with teasers and announcements for Beyond Good and Evil 2 for well over a decade now it would finally appear that we're getting the long-awaited sequel, or rather a prequel. There is very little information available right now, but according to Ubisoft Beyond Good and Evil 2 will allow players to explore a "profoundly multicultural world" that evokes the spirit of the original without leaning too hard on nostalgia.

How exactly all of this will pan out in the end, I have absolutely no idea, but you can get a brief glimpse at the current version of Beyond Good and Evil 2 through the recently posted in-engine demo video. The footage you'll be watching is from a pre-alpha build, so don't expect everything to be polished to a mirror sheen and completely bug free. If that's something you're willing to accept, here's the video:

Ori and the Will of the Wisps screenshot of the owl graveyard

[Update]: Ori and the Will of the Wisps has now been released for PC and Xbox One, and so far the reception has been pretty good!

Ori and the Blind Forest might not be the most mechanically interesting game I've ever played, but its visual design and atmosphere are absolutely top-notch. As such, I'm glad to say that during this year's E3 Microsoft revealed the much-requested sequel, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, and that its just as stunning as the original.

If you're interested in seeing what Ori and the Will of the Wisps might look like you'll find what you seek in the recently posted announcement trailer right below. It doesn't feature any actual gameplay, but as with Ori and the Blind Forest it manages to perfectly set the mood through visuals and music alone. Have a look, its well worth the two minutes:

Pathfinder: Kingmaker official artwork and logo

Pathfinder: Kingmaker is an upcoming singleplayer isometric RPG with a bit of a twist. Instead of adventuring through dark caves and creepy castles in an effort to save the world, in Pathfinder: Kingmaker you will be trying to establish your very own kingdom in the unsurprisingly hostile Stolen Lands. To do this you will need to blaze a path through the wilderness, deal with any troublesome local warlords, but also adventure through dark caves and creepy castles in order to uncover their ancient secrets - it is an RPG after all!

If this sounds like something you might enjoy you'll be glad to hear that Pathfinder: Kingmaker has now been successfully funded on Kickstarter. With the intial goal of $500,000 fully secured the developers are now turning towards stretch goals that currently include a greatly improved and much more interesting version of camping, as well as one of my favorite archetypes in RPGs: the sword-wielding mage.

Sea of Thieves screenshot of some lovely scenery

Very rarely do you have a game whose title tells you the whole story, but with Sea of Thieves that's exactly the case. Its a multiplayer focused pirate adventure/exploration game where you'll need to search for hidden caches of treasures, pillage ships piloted by other players, and somehow survive the trip all the way back to port in order to cash in your booty - basically everything you would expect a pirate to do! Its a simple concept, that's for sure, but there is potential here.

If you're wondering what Sea of Thieves might look like, or better yet what it plays like, you'll find the recently posted E3 gameplay trailer right below. The video's a bit overly scripted for my liking, but it should give you a good idea of what Sea of Thieves is aiming to accomplish. Have a look:

Steep: Road to the Olympics expansion artwork and logo

Steep is Ubisoft's extreme winter sports game that allows you to ski, glide, snowboard, or just faceplant across a variety of rather lovely terrain. Given the theme it really shouldn't come as a surprise to hear that has Ubisoft has recently announced a Winter Olympics themed expansion - Road to the Olympics.

The upcoming expansion will allow you to fully explore the mountains of Japan and South Korea, and perhaps most importantly, compete in some of the official Olympic disciplines such as: Downhill, Slopestyle, Halfpipe, Giant Slalom, Super-G, and Big Air. Besides all of the new modes and maps there will also be numerous challenges to undertake, as well as what appears to be a tournament system. Road to the Olympics has only recently been announced, so take that last statement with a bit of salt, but it would make sense for an Olympics themed expansion to feature a proper tournament mode.
