[Update]: Riot Games are working on an MMO set in the League of Legends universe!

Instead of keeping all game development in-house and under tight control, Riot Games have announced that they plan to partner up with developers both big and small in order to expand the League of Legends universe. In order to achieve this, as well as ensure the new games are properly funded, Riot have now also opened up their own publishing platform - Riot Forge.

"We’re a player and developer-focused publisher," reads the official announcement. "Our mission is to bring awesome new League of Legends games to players by partnering with experienced and talented developers from around the world."

Dota Underlords official artwork for the new Underlord Jull

[Update]: Dota Underlords' next titular Underlord is the small but scrappy Enno.

While Valve's willingness to experiment with Dota Underlords is certainly commendable, sometimes all that tinkering results in quite a few problems. Most notably, the last few major patches have greatly increased the average match length, to the point that they sometimes even exceeded actual Dota 2 matches, which isn't exactly ideal for a game that bills itself as being easy to pick up and play.

As such, I'm very happy to say that the newest update has now greatly sped up the early game, and thus also significantly reduced the overall match time. Unit health has been lowered across the board, players now start with a higher unit cap and more gold, while creep rounds have been removed entirely in order to get everyone smashing into each other as soon as possible.

Total War: Three Kingdoms screenshot of a battle from the Mandate of Heaven DLC

[Update]: Mandate of Heaven has now arrived in full, and so far it seems to be a pretty solid piece of DLC.

These are pretty exciting times for the Total War series. Total War: Warhammer 2 has recently received the The Shadow & The Blade DLC alongside truly impressive end-turn timer reductions for the Mortal Empires campaign, while Total War: Three Kingdoms is now slated to get a massive and feature-rich new DLC - Mandate of Heaven.

The Mandate of Heaven campaign begins in 182 CE just before the Yellow Turban rebellion and features over 40 new combat units to mess around with, six new playable warlords with unique mechanics, as well as origin stories for many of the characters that play pivotal roles in the main campaign. Speaking of which, you'll be able to seamlessly transition from your Mandate of Heaven campaign to the main one, with many of the most important events adjusting themselves based on what you've accomplished.

If you're looking for even more unique animals to research and raise, or if you're just eager to add a bit of extra chaos to your messed up Battle Royale arena, you might be interested to hear that Planet Zoo's very first DLC has now arrived. The Arctic Pack brings with it four new animals (Polar Bear, Reindeer, Arctic Wolf and Dall Sheep), over 200 new scenery pieces to toy around with, as well as two brand new scenarios set in Norway and Mexico.

Here's a brief teaser trailer showing off the adorable new animals, as well as some of the really impressive new parks you'll be able to create. Have a gander:

Warcraft 3: Reforged footman artwork

[Update]: Warcraft 3: Reforged has now finally been released, and it's unfortunately a bit of a mixed bag.

For those of you that were planning to actually follow through with your New Year's resolution instead of simply lazing around, I'm afraid I bring a bit of bad news. Blizzard has just announced that Warcraft 3: Reforged, a remastered version of one of the best RTS games around, will be releasing world-wide on January 28, 2020!

Warcraft 3: Reforged will bring with it remastered versions of both the Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne campaigns, improved visuals and voice acting, greatly rebalanced online play, a variety of upgrades to the matchmaking and social features, and perhaps most importantly of all, a massively enhanced World Editor tool!

Vermintide 2 screenshot of the newly added Old Haunts map

[Update]: Vermintide 2's Season 2 update has now arrived alongside a brand new map and a much better way of acquiring new cosmetics.

If you're itching for some more Vermintide 2 content, you're in luck as the beta servers have just been updated with a rather massive new patch. It has brought with it a free remastered Vermintide 1 map called Old Haunts, the ability to acquire cosmetics by collecting in-game currency, Quick Play support for the recently added Weaves game mode, and perhaps most importantly, greatly improved weapon crafting!

Speaking of the new map, simply calling it a remaster is a bit of an understatement. It contains many of the same assets and areas from Vermintide 1, but they are arranged in entirely new ways and the whole map feels like a genuinely new experience. So even if you've thoroughly explored Vermintide 1's Castle Drachenfels, the new map should still feel nice and fresh, especially given the increased enemy and boss variety.

Telltale's Batman series screenshot of the Joker

Even though Telltale itself is gone, things are looking pretty good for most of its series. The Walking Dead's final season got finished thanks to Robert Kirkman's Skybound Games, The Wolf Among Us 2 has recently been announced as under development, and now we're getting news that Telltale's Batman series is getting a brand new edition!

The Telltale Batman Shadows Edition, besides being a somewhat poor title, is a collection of both seasons of Telltale's Batman series, along with a "Shadows Mode" that gives the games a bit of a noir aesthetic. The full version will set you back $30, while current owners will be able to purchase the Shadows Mode DLC for $5.

Screenshot of the protesters from Postal 2

If you're in the mood to celebrate the holiday season in quite possibly the most inappropriate way possible, you're in luck as GOG is currently giving away the first two Postal games. The original Postal is free permanently and you can grab it whenever you want, while Postal 2 will only be available for free until December 18th.

Just to avoid any confusion, it is worth mentioning that claiming either copy will give you full access to it, even once the giveaway is over. You don't even need to install either of the games, simply add their keys to your GOG account and you'll be able to go on an insane rampage whenever you want.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 screenshot of the newly added Kylo Ren

[Update]: After two years of patches, development on Battlefront 2 is now coming to an end.

As you're most likely well aware due to all of your nearby stores getting converted into Star Wars advertisements, The Rise of Skywalker is set to arrive in the near future. In order to bring more attention to the movie's upcoming release, as well give its players an early Christmas gift, Star Wars Battlefront 2 will be getting a whole bunch of The Rise of Skywalker themed content this December 17th.

First and foremost, the update will be adding the jungle planet from the recent trailers for players to mess around with. It'll be available in co-op where you can play as either the Resistance or First Order, as well as in the Heroes vs Villains mode which will utilize the newly added heroes (more on that in a second). However, in order to avoid spoiling the movie, the jungle planet will only become available on December 20th.

Gothic 1 Playable Teaser screenshot of two raptors attacking the player

[Update #2]: A few years later, THQ Nordic has now shared a new and atmospheric look at the greatly revamped Gothic 1 Remake.

[Update]: The playable teaser was a success! THQ Nordic is now officially working on the Gothic Remake!

While I'm personally a bigger fan of Gothic 2, even I have to admit that the original Gothic is a truly remarkable game that left a massive impact on the RPG genre. It's also a game that's practically infested with bugs and quite dated by today's standards, the former of which has become increasingly problematic as each new operating system seems to create more and more issues.

In order to address this, as well as to bring the RPG classic into the modern era, THQ Nordic has now released a playable teaser for the Gothic 1 Remake to see what the community thinks about it. Needless to say, nothing is currently set in stone and this is merely a prototype, but here's a small showcase of what THQ Nordic has cooked up:
