League of Legends official artwork of a massive battle

For as long as I can remember, League of Legends players have been asking Riot Games to take all of Runeterra's rich lore and create a League of Legends themed MMO. These requests have only increased in frequency over the past year as Riot not only announced their very own publishing company, but also two RPGs firmly set in the League of Legends universe!

So given how things are going, it should come as little surprise to hear that Riot has now finally taken the plunge and announced a League of Legends MMO as well! What might come as quite a shock, however, is that they have done so in what is quite possibly the most casual way imaginable - just randomly dropping it as an answer to a Twitter question!

That said, while the announcement is by no means a joke, I wouldn't get too excited just yet as this new League MMO is still very early in development. So early, in fact, that we don't even know its name, let alone if it's going to be an MMORPG or something else entirely. And considering how long it takes to create a fully fledged MMO, it's not beyond the realm of possibility for the League MMO to take upwards of three to four years to come to fruition.

Whatever the case may be, I'll make sure to let you know as soon as we get some more information. Until then, I'm afraid all we can really do is sit and wait. Here's to hoping it won't be a long one!
