I don't know what exactly is happening behind the scenes, but it would appear that EA is currently in the process of shifting their focus towards the creation of new games. A little while ago they announced that Battlefield V's final update will be coming in June, and more recently, they have also revealed that development on Star Wars Battlefront 2 is now coming to an end.

"Looking beyond April, we’re transitioning to a phase where the servers, in-game challenges, recurring events such as Double XP and more, and game support will carry this broad and rich Star Wars gaming experience into the future," reads the official update. "This means that we’re moving away from delivering regular content updates. As the game lives on with the players and our community, we’re looking forward to hearing your stories for years to come."

"Developing characters, worlds, and experiences set in this amazing galaxy that is Star Wars is an honor, and it has continued to be a remarkable, challenging, and ultimately rewarding journey for the entire team. Knowing that we have a passionate community of millions of players and Star Wars fans – just like ourselves – along on the ride, is the greatest inspiration we could ever have."

While I'm sure this will result in quite a few "dead game" comments, as is tradition, I doubt this will impact Battlefront 2 in any significant way, at least not for the foreseeable future. Unlike Battlefield V which still has quite a few problems, Battlefront 2 feels and plays like a fully-finished game. So while the lack of any future updates is unfortunate, the game itself will thankfully remain in a pretty good place.

Whatever your thoughts on the matter may be, you can learn more about Battlefront 2's twilight, as well as what the final update brought to the table, over at the official website. Have fun!
