Far Cry 5's Season Pass trailer teases alien spiders, time travel and zombie hordes

Far Cry 5 artwork showing off the Season Pass DLCs

While Far Cry 5's main storyline appears to be taking itself fairly seriously, everything else surrounding it has decided to forsake realism in favor of cheesy scenarios and over-the-top action. As such, Far Cry 5's Season Pass will give us the ability to travel back in time in order to fight in Vietnam, leave Earth behind in an effort to eradicate the Martian spiders, and even face off against hordes upon hordes of zombies in true b-movie fashion.

If you're wondering how all of this translates into actual gameplay, allow me to share with you the recently posted trailer. Have a look, but keep in mind that the video is just as over-the-top and ridiculous as the content it's showing off:

The Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will be coming to PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch in early July

This might come as a bit of a surprise given that the information was about as easy to find as nuclear launch codes, but the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy has been a timed-exclusive from the very beginning. With that in mind, I am extremely happy to say that the modern remasters of Crash Bandicoot, Cortex Strikes Back, and Warped will be coming to PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch this July 10th!

In terms of improvements you can expect to see better visuals and support for modern resolutions, re-recorded dialogue and an improved soundtrack, a unified save and menu system, time trials for all three games, as well as a variety of tweaks to the gameplay mechanics. From what I've seen online most of these changes have been well received, though it does appear that the new jumping mechanics have made the original Crash Bandicoot even more unforgiving, as if that was possible!

The battle royale shooter H1Z1 has gone free-to-play one week after leaving Early Access

H1Z1 was originally supposed to be a free-to-play game, though was changed shortly before it launched in Early Access. After that the developers claimed it would be free-to-play once it eventually left Early Access, but again, all of that fell through when H1Z1 was split into two different games. Just last week H1Z1 finally released from Early Access alongside a brand new Auto Royale game mode, and as expected, it released as a paid game.

However, it wouldn't be H1Z1 if it didn't flip-flop on the issue immediately, and so the developers have now announced that it has gone entirely free-to-play! This is no doubt due to the ever-growing popularity of Fortnite and PUBG, but it still feels incredibly sleazy to advertise and sell a game under the pretense of it being finally finished, only to then turn around a week later and release it for free. I've never been much of a H1Z1 fan, and this sort of anti-consumer behavior is certainly not going to win it any favors any time soon.

Total War: Thrones of Britannia devs have released a gameplay preview highlighting the Gwined faction

Total War: Thrones of Britannia official artwork without logo

The upcoming Total War: Thrones of Britannia is going to be the very first of the Total War Saga series. What this means in gameplay terms is that instead of trying to capture an entire historical era, Thrones of Britannia will offer a much more detailed look at some of the most interesting events that happened in a relatively short time frame. You can expect to see the most detailed Total War map to date, ten playable and diverse factions, a variety of victory conditions that align with your chosen faction's history, as well as a numerous of gameplay improvements.

You can get a good peek at what all of this looks like in-game through the recently posted developer preview. It's a little bit on the lengthy side, but it should give you a pretty darn good idea of what Thrones of Britannia is all about and whether it's the Total War game you're looking for. Have a gander:

Valve's card game Artifact will be coming in 2018, and it will not be free-to-play

After months and months of absolute silence, Valve has now finally spoken about their much-anticipated card game Artifact. According to the brief announcement Artifact has been designed from the ground up by Richard Garfield, the creator of Magic the Gathering, and as such is expected to be highly competitive and strategic. In order to prove this Valve will be holding a $1,000,000 tournament in the first quarter of 2019, though no specifics have been given just yet.

As for the actual release date, you can expect to see Artifact at some point in 2018. It will initially only be available on PC, though the iOS and Android versions are currently in development. On a somewhat different note, it is also important to mention that Artifact will not be a free-to-play game! There will be various game modes for you to earn extra packs, as well as the ability to trade via the Steam Market, but you will need to pony up some cash in order to get started. Naturally, the exact details haven't been shared, so I would recommend not stressing about the price just yet.

The viking themed strategy game Northgard has now sailed out of Steam Early Access

[Update]: Northgard has just received its biggest and most important update yet - the Map Editor!

The rather stylish viking themed strategy game Northgard made its way onto Steam Early Access in February of last year. In my initial review I found it to be pretty darn good, albeit heavily lacking in terms of content. With that in mind, I am very glad to say that Northgard has now finally left Early Access alongside a brand new singleplayer campaign, as well as a variety of different clans to play around with!

You can get a good peek at what all of this looks like in-game through two of the recently posted trailers. The first one is your general "here's what the game's about" video, while the second one is entirely focused on the singleplayer campaign and the story you'll be following throughout it. Have a gander:

Amnesia: The Dark Descent and its sequel A Machine for Pigs are free on Steam for "a limited time"

If you're a fan of horror games yet you've somehow managed to avoid playing Amnesia: The Dark Descent, consider this your lucky day! Simply head on over to Steam and you'll be able to grab a free copy of both the original Amnesia and its sequel A Machine for Pigs. This offer will only last for a "limited time only", so I would recommend you seize it as quickly as possible lest you lose your chance.

As for whether Amnesia is worth your time, I would say without even a single doubt that the answer is yes! Unlike the vast majority of horror games it doesn't rely on jump-scares in order to make your pants brown, but rather on a combination of immersive atmosphere, truly disturbing visuals, and excellent sound design. So turn off the lights, put on some headphones, and just dive in head first - it is well worth it!
