A fair few years have gone by since Myst studio's VR focused and steampunk themed adventure Firmament was successfully Kickstarted, and I'm afraid one more year will have to pass before you can finally give it a try. According to the latest developer update, Firmament has now been pushed back to the first quarter of 2023 as the Cyan team needs a bit more time to get everything polished up and ready to go.

"Here's why: we do not want to give you anything less than our best," explains the announcement. "Our best - as is the case for game developers all around the world, large or small - takes time. Very simply, if we release Firmament without taking a little extra time to put the finishing touches and polish on it, we would not be serving you, Firmament's Backers and Cyan's devoted fans, as you deserve."

"We know how lucky we are to be able to make games for you. We're luckier still to have your dedicated support as we make our living doing this. It's your patience and understanding that carries us through the hardest times. Knowing that you know and trust we are here, working to bring you the very best game experience we can, uplifts us every day. Thank you for being on our side."

No exact release date has been given just yet, though once that changes I'll make sure to let you know. For now, however, allow me to share with you the original trailer to help set the mood and give you a bit of an idea of the sort of themes Firmament will be exploring. Have a peek:

If you don't mind spoilers, albeit only visual ones, Cyan has also released a lengthy preview showing off a bunch of different locations. While it doesn't highlight any of the story behind these places, you should still avoid the video if you're trying to go into Firmament entirely fresh.
