World of Warcraft is finally adding cross-faction dungeons and PvP with Update 8.2.5 this June 1st

[Update]: World of Warcraft has now added cross-faction grouping along with Dark Ranger themed character customization options for elves!

It took far too many years for us to get here, but I'm incredibly happy to say that World of Warcraft will finally be adding cross-faction grouping with Update 8.2.5 on June 1st. This first iteration of the cross-faction system will allow you to group up with either faction for most forms of instanced content: dungeons, raids, rated arenas and battlegrounds, as well as Torghast.

Once in a party you will remain unfriendly to members of the opposing faction, though you will be able to communicate with them through either group chat or proximity chat. Once you're actually in a dungeon, however, you will be able to do everything from sharing loot to earning achievements with them, just like you would with a member of your own faction.

Souls-like RPG Dolmen has now arrived, and sadly it's looking like a bit of a mess so far

Dolmen artwork for the Souls-like and Warframe inspired action-RPG

Seemingly inspired by both Warframe and the Souls series, the newly released Dolmen is a highly atmospheric action-RPG with the focus firmly placed on combat. Unsurprisingly, this means Dolmen brings with it a variety of melee and ranged weapons to toy around with, plenty of challenging enemies to slam your head against, as well as a dark and twisted world to explore.

While that is certainly a good base for an action-RPG, the bad news is that Dolmen has launched with a staggering array of problems. Bugs and performance issues appear to be everywhere, while the combat itself ranges from being rather competent to flat-out annoying depending on the circumstances. To put it quite simply, it's all a bit of a mess.

A year after launch, Ys IX: Monstrum Nox has just unleashed a surprise PC performance patch

Ys IX: Monstrum Nox official artwork for the JRPG adventure

I have to give credit where credit is due, the team behind the PC version of Ys IX: Monstrum Nox is incredibly dedicated! Not only was the original port well made, but the devs also went through the trouble of adding local co-op as nifty little bonus!

Usually that would be the end of the story given that we're nearing a year since launch, but the Ys IX: Monstrum Nox team has now returned yet again with a brand new update! This time around there's no new content to toy around with, but rather some new optimizations and technical enhancements that should help improve performance by up to 25% for those with weaker CPUs.

Dying Light studio Techland's artwork for their new open world fantasy RPG

Since the main team is going to very busy fulfilling their promise for five years of post-launch support for Dying Light 2, Techland has now begun hiring a brand new team for a currently unannounced project. While the details are still few and far between, I can tell you that the new game will be a massive, fantasy themed open world action-RPG set in a brand new universe.

“...our ambition is to introduce a brand new IP that is vastly different from what we have been doing for the past several years,” reads the brief update. “We want to create a fully next-gen experience. A new fantasy epic set in a sprawling open world, fueled by the skills and experience we have gained as a team over the years, infused with new ideas, passion, and creativity. While we cannot share more details about this project now, we're all truly invested in it and looking forward to showing it to gamers when the time is right.”

Vampire Survivors has added an in-game shop, a trippy boss fight, and many secrets

[Update]: Vampire Survivors June 2022 update has added a new stage, three characters and a couple of items!

The Vampire Survivors team has just unleashed Patch 0.6.1 - The Weird One, and after playing through most of it I can confidently say the name is well deserved. More on that in just a second.

First things first, Patch 0.6.1 brings with it two new Arcanas to play around with, one more rank for the Skip power-up, an in-game shop that lets you convert gold to temporary items or minuscule permanent upgrades, as well as a brand new bonus stage by the name of Moonglow. The latter is quite a bizarre map as it has all of the game's power-ups simply strewn across the floor for you to grab at your leisure, as well as a low amount of enemies and a massive amount of torches and pots to smash.

In a bit of a departure from their usual formula, Stunlock Studios have now released their vampire themed survival and crafting game V Rising into Early Access. As you might imagine given the mixture of genres and themes, V Rising is all about building the coolest evil castle you can possibly think of, plundering the countryside for valuable resources and food, as well as doing your best to avoid getting destroyed by the searing daylight, holy hunters, or just your fellow players with a nasty grudge!

What all of this looks like in action, that you can get a pretty good idea of through the launch trailer below. Have a gander, it's a rather fun one:

[Update]: Sky Pirates has now arrived alongside an assortment of fancy new weapon skins.

In an effort to bring back all of the Living World Season 1 content after a decade of absence, the Guild Wars 2 team has now started re-releasing updated versions of the original episodes. The very first one Flame and Frost has already arrived, and on May 24th the Sky Pirates episode will bring with it the long-lost continuation of the story and a reintroduction to Captain Mai Trin and detective Marjory Delaqua.

Much like its predecessor, Sky Pirates will be a permanent addition that's freely available to all players. So regardless of what expansions you may or may not own, you'll be able to play through the old storylines at your leisure.
