Dying Light studio Techland's artwork for their new open world fantasy RPG

Since the main team is going to very busy fulfilling their promise for five years of post-launch support for Dying Light 2, Techland has now begun hiring a brand new team for a currently unannounced project. While the details are still few and far between, I can tell you that the new game will be a massive, fantasy themed open world action-RPG set in a brand new universe.

“...our ambition is to introduce a brand new IP that is vastly different from what we have been doing for the past several years,” reads the brief update. “We want to create a fully next-gen experience. A new fantasy epic set in a sprawling open world, fueled by the skills and experience we have gained as a team over the years, infused with new ideas, passion, and creativity. While we cannot share more details about this project now, we're all truly invested in it and looking forward to showing it to gamers when the time is right.”

It's also worth mentioning that the freshly formed team seems to consist of a fair few CD Projekt Red veterans that have worked on either Cyberpunk 2077 or The Witcher series. Combine that with Techland's very own experience with open world gameplay, and I'd say this new RPG has some solid potential.

Once more information becomes available, ideally alongside a proper announcement, I'll make sure to let you know.

Until then, consider giving Dying Light 2 a try if you want to scratch that open world itch. It's not perfect by any stretch, and the story is downright stupid, but at the end of the day drop-kicking bandits off rooftops is still a jolly good time!
