From the very moment the first motion controllers appeared on the market people have been clamoring for a game that allows them to slice and dice enemies like a true Jedi, and with the advent of virtual reality these demands have only become louder.

This is where Star Wars: Trials of Tatooine comes into play, and even though its not a fully fledged game but rather a tech demo, its still a brief chance to forget the real world and start waving around with a lightsaber of your own. Here's a brief trailer showcasing what exactly Trials of Tatooine is all about:

Star Citizen is free-to-play for the next week

Star Citizen's Gladius ship

Star Citizen is one of the most divisive games currently out there, with some considering it a work of pure, crowdfunded genius and others a barely functioning mess with no end in sight and plenty of overpriced DLC to pave the way. With such a wide range of opinions it can be hard to decide on who to trust, so why not go with the most trustworthy source you know, yourself!

As a part of its Summer Free Fly 2016 promotion, Star Citizen is completely free-to-play until July 22, so if you ever wanted to give it a try and form your own opinions, now would be the best time to do so. Do also bear in mind, however, that Star Citizen is still in an early alpha state, so don't expect to see a fully finished game just yet.

World of Warcraft's pre-expansion patch is coming next week

World of Warcraft's supposedly massive Legion expansion is fast approaching, and in order to drum up a storm of excitement Blizzard has announced that they will be releasing a pre-expansion patch to give everyone a glimpse at all of the changes.

The first, and biggest update will introduce a greatly improved transmogrification system (the ability to alter how your gear looks without influencing its stats) and a whole slew of class changes, some of which are so drastic you might not even recognize your former specialization. My favorite example of these class changes is the transformation of Survival Hunters from somewhat boring ranged damage dealers to a more melee-orientated combatant that prefers to fight alongside their pet.

Chex Quest, the old cereal-based Doom mod, is getting an HD remake

[Update]: After quite a while, Chex Quest HD has now been release for free!

Chex Quest is a total conversion mod for Doom that was designed with a simple idea behind it, to sell a whole bunch of cereal. Much to everyone's surprise, it ended up being a pretty damn good conversion, so much so that I remember getting my hands on it during my younger years... and Chex isn't even a brand out here!

It doesn't stop there, however, as Chex Quest was apparently so popular it ended up spawning a sequel shortly afterwards, and even a third installment some 10 years after the original at the behest of numerous fans. Now, with its 20th anniversary fast approaching, it appears that Chex Quest is about to receive an HD remake in Unreal Engine 4.

This little announcement comes from a fascinating interview Zam did with Charles Jacobi, the artist behind Chex Quest, so if you're interested in all of the details on how the mod came to be and what exactly the team had to work with, I fully recommend you give it a read. For now, however, here's what Jacobi had to say about the HD remaster and why he's even working on it:

Civilization: Beyond Earth is free-to-play until Monday, 10am PST

Civilization Beyond Earth promo artwork

Civilization: Beyond Earth has received a pretty mediocre reception, mostly because it felt like a slightly different version of Civilization 5 rather than a spiritual successor to Alpha Centauri as many have expected, but its still not a bad game. Though is it good enough to actually purchase?

If you're currently residing on the fence and are looking for an easy way to resolve this conundrum, you'll be glad to hear that Civilization: Beyond Earth is completely free-to-play until Monday, 10am PST. Most interestingly, however, its not Steam that's holding this little promotion, but rather Humble Store in collaboration with GameSessions.

[Update]: High On Life is a remarkably entertaining (and remarkably insane) FPS game from the co-creator of Rick and Morty.

Owlchemy Labs, the folks behind Job Simulator, have just announced that they are working on brand new VR game featuring everybody's favorite drunken scientist - Rick. From what is known so far, the newly announced Rick and Morty Simulator: Virtual Rick-ality will only be available for the HTC Vive, though I'd imagine the other platforms will be soon to follow.

If you're wondering what sort of madness you can get up to with Virtual Rick-ality, you'll find an overly long 13-second trailer right below. And yes, there is indeed a plumbus present, everyone owns one after all! Have a look:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered has recently received a lengthy gameplay trailer

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the FPS that basically kickstarted the whole modern military shooter genre, will soon be getting a remastered version with vastly improved graphics and audio quality.

If you're wondering how vast these improvements really are, Activision has recently posted a rather lengthy gameplay video showcasing one of the earlier missions, and I have to say, its looking pretty damn impressive so far. The textures are no longer muddy, shadows seem fairly realistic, the character models and faces are no longer as jagged, and the way the light cuts through the foggy darkness is a massive improvement over the original's presentation. Have a look for yourself:
