[Update]: Epic is now giving away Borderlands: The Handsome Collection which contains Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and all of the DLC released for both games!
The Epic Games Store is currently running a massive sale, and they are doing everything they can in order to get as many eyes on it as possible. Not that I'm complaining, however, as just recently they have given out GTA 5 for free, and now they are doing the same with Civilization VI!
So if you're up for many sleepless nights, endlessly chasing that "one more turn" high, you should head on over to the Epic Games Store and grab yourself a copy of Civilization VI. This promotion will last until May 28th, so while you have plenty of time to do it, I would recommend simply getting a copy now while it's still fresh on your mind.

[Update]: Valorant has now been released for PC, and unsurprisingly, it's a pretty fun shooter.
In an announcement that I must admit comes as quite a shock, Riot Games has now revealed that their competitive 5v5 shooter Valorant will be launching this June 2nd! Some regions like India and the Middle East won't have their own servers at launch, though the team is working on remedying that as soon as possible. Until then, these regions will be combined with their neighbors, the SEA and EU servers in this case.
When it comes to its gameplay style, Valorant is often described as a hybrid between Counter-Strike and Overwatch, though I must admit I highly disagree with that. Outside of unique heroes and abilities, Valorant simply doesn't share much with Overwatch. However, the Counter-Strike comparison is quite apt as Valorant features a very similar gameplay feel, damage to health ratio, as well as map design and objectives. So if you're a fan of CSGO and you're looking for something fresh, Valorant might just be worth a closer look.

After a few rounds of beta testing, Black Desert Online's battle royale cousin Shadow Arena has now been unleashed onto Steam Early Access. As you might imagine given the premise, Shadow Arena allows 40 players to roam across its map in search of monsters and loot, all the while beating each other senseless with a variety of unique characters. Each one has their own special skillset and playstyle, as well as the usual strengths and weaknesses, so learning how to utilize or exploit all of them is going to be where most of the challenge lies.
As for what exactly the combat looks like in action, that you'll find out through one of the character trailers down below. This one is mostly focused on Yeonhwa and her various combo attacks, so it should give you a pretty good impression of what Shadow Arena has to offer. Have a gander:

[Update #2]: Crucible will be closing down its servers on November 9, 2020.
[Update]: A month after launch, Crucible has now moved back to Closed Beta.
While the team-based shooter craze has slowly given way to the battle royale craze, there is definitely still room in the market for a more focused and organized shooter experience. And that is exactly the type of niche Amazon tried to fill with their newly launched Crucible - a free-to-play shooter with a wide and colorful cast of characters, each armed with their own unique abilities and playstyle.
Since trying to describe shooters through words alone is a bit of a pointless endeavor, allow me to share with you the recently posted overview trailer. It'll give you a pretty good idea of just what Crucible is trying to accomplish. Have a gander:

If you're still curious about DayZ, or if you simply want to see how things have evolved since the early days of the mod, you might be glad to hear that it's going to be free to try out for the next couple of days. To be more specific, from 10am PST on May 21st until 10am PST on May 25th DayZ will be entirely free to check out on Steam.
As for what exactly you're getting yourself into, that you'll find out through last year's "This is DayZ" trailer. It's a little bit outdated at this point, but it should still clue you in quite nicely. Have a look:

[Update]: The newest experimental patch has brought in some juicy Genji buffs as well as strange Moira changes.
If there's any sort of cosmetic item you missed during the previous Overwatch events, the newly launched Anniversary 2020 update offers the perfect chance to correct that mistake. To put it simply, it has not only brought with it every single skin, voice line and animation from all of the previous events, but it has also added some rather awesome new legendary skins and dance emotes!
You can get a little sneak peek at what these new skins look like, as well as how stylish Echo's dance moves are, through the recently posted trailer. Have a gander:

[Update]: The Warden & The Paunch DLC has now arrived, and unsurprisingly, it's yet another pretty good one.
Later today, Total War: Warhammer 2's The Warden & The Paunch DLC will bring with it a morbidly obese Goblin and the eternally grumpy High Elf version of Batman. However, as exciting as that might sound, it is the accompanying free update that is likely going to have the biggest impact.
This would be because the update contains the long-requested rework of the Greenskins faction. Instead of having them be the punching bags of the entire world, it will finally make the Greenskins a nearly endless tide of ravenous anger and poor hygiene, just as they should be in the lore. More importantly, it will also reduce the power of the dreaded Order alliance by making it so the Dwarfs actually have a strong competitor vying for supremacy over the mountains.

If you're in the mood for an RPG that's a little bit out of the ordinary, you might want to keep an eye on the upcoming Maneater. It's essentially a story-focused action RPG where you start off as a young shark pup, and eventually end up as a ridiculously over-the-top megashark that can annihilate boats with the mere flick of its fin.
As for what exactly this looks like in gameplay terms, that you'll find out through the recently posted launch trailer. Have a gander, it's certainly a unique one:

[Update]: The Aftermath expansion has now arrived, and apparently it's quite good!
This May 26th Mortal Kombat 11 will be getting its very first major expansion - Aftermath. It'll bring with it a brand new storyline centered around the Fire God Liu Kang, the new keeper of time and protector of Earthrealm, and will once again pit the various characters against each other in a series of brutal and over-the-top duels. Aftermath will also add three new fighters to toy around with (Sheeva, Fujin and the guest star Robocop), as well as three new skin packs that will be released over time.
You can get a pretty good idea of what the new characters have to offer, as well as get a glimpse at the new storyline, through two of the most recent trailers. Have a gander, they're about as ridiculous as you would expect:

As a part of the recent Vision of N'Zoth update, Blizzard added a major new source of player power - corrupted items. Unfortunately, while the idea behind corrupted items is an excellent one, their actual implementation leaves a lot to be desired. Not only is there a massive power difference between the various corruption effects, but there is basically no way to target the ones you want, meaning you can rise or fall through the ranks purely on luck alone.
This will soon be a thing of the past, however, as Blizzard is looking to make it significantly easier to get the corruptions you want. So instead of having to rely on pure dumb luck, MOTHER will soon start selling specific corruption effects for large quantities of Echoes of Ny’alotha. The items she sells will change twice a week, mirroring the new Assault missions, and will cycle through all of the corruption effects and their various levels of potency.
