If you're interested in adding another colorful shooter to your repertoire, you might want to take a look at the upcoming Battlecrew Space Pirates. Its being made by Dontnod 11, a second studio opened by the team behind Life is Strange and the upcoming vampire RPG Vampyr, and it will heavily focus on cheesy humor and Awesomenauts inspired action.

Since trying to explain action games through words alone is a mostly pointless venture, allow me to share with you the announcement trailer. It should give you a good idea of the sort of humor Dontnot is going for, as well as the type of action you can expect to see. Have a look:

Cyanide Studios, developers you might be familiar with from their work on Blood Bowl and Styx: Master of Shadows, are currently working on a video game adaptation of the classic pen&paper RPG Call of Cthulhu. As you might imagine given the the topic and otherworldly horrors present within, madness is something our character is going to be constantly brushing against in his never-ending search for the truth, no matter how terrible it truly is.

So if you're looking for even a brief glimpse at what Call of Cthulhu has to offer, allow me to share with you the recently posted trailer. While it won't give you much in terms of gameplay footage, it does a rather good job of setting up the proper atmosphere for a Lovecraftian horror story. Have a look:

XCOM 2's Long War 2 mod new character class

If you're itching to give XCOM 2 another playthrough, now would be the best time to do so as the massive Long War 2 mod has now finally arrived. Totaling at 2.2GB in size, Long War 2 brings with it a much longer campaign, nine new soldier classes, two new weapon tiers, dozens of new enemies, a brand new enemy AI, and a whole bunch more!

While a video covering all of these features would probably drag on forever, allow me to share with you the most recent preview that only covers the new mission types. Its not much, but the mission variety alone should clue you in on how detailed Long War 2 really is. Have a look:

Yooka-Laylee official artwork

If you were hoping to break out Yooka-Laylee as an occasional party game, it appears you're in luck as the developers have just announced that there will be eight unique multiplayer arcade games to toy around with. You will be able to race with other players in Kartos Karting, fight for the flag in the Blag the Flag, demolish hordes of enemies in Gun-let Run, and so forth. Long story short, its going to be a bunch of minigames!

And for those of you wondering what all of this might look like, allow me to share with you the recently posted trailer. If you would like to avoid the intro and head straight into the action, skip to around 20 seconds into the video. Anyway, have a look:

Overwatch's Year of the Rooster update will arrive on January 24th with some a-Mei-zing new skins

Mei's new skin from Overwatch's Year of the Rooster update

Given how snow and ice are Mei's theme many players expected her to get one of the best skins in the Holiday Update, and while she did get a cool (heh) new snowman animation for her Iceblock, the skin itself was rather mediocre. Following a surprisingly large community outrage Blizzard promised that Mei would be getting an awesome new skin at some point in January, which given her Chinese nationality was quite clearly pointing towards some sort of Chinese New Year event.

As such, the following shouldn't come as much of a surprise - Blizzard has just announced that Overwatch will be getting the Year of the Rooster update on January 24th, along with an a-Mei-zing new skin! While there is no actual information on the event itself, and whether it will come with specially decorated maps and brawl game modes, I can tell you that D.Va is also getting an adorable new skin! Homeworld Remastered Collection official screenshot

If you're looking to fill up your backlog on the cheap you might want to take a look at Humble Bundle's currently ongoing "Best of 2016" bundle. While it doesn't feature any games I've personally nominated as the "best of 2016", it does have a nice variety that should keep you busy for quite a while.

Most notably, it features the excellent Homeworld Remastered Collection, as well as Shadowrun: Hong Kong - Extended Edition which I found myself greatly enjoying. As for the full list of games and their pricing tiers, here's what the bundle has to offer:

Mirage: Arcane Warfare's latest teaser is a showcase of the Taurant's brutality

Mirage: Arcane Warfare official promo artwork

Mirage: Arcane Warfare is a spiritual successor to Chivalry: Medieval Warfare where the noble knights and mighty steel blades have been replaced with blithering madmen and copious amounts of magic. And if you're wondering how much of a role magic will play in Mirage, let's just say that even the Taurant - a brute that yells a lot and hits people with a giant mace - has quite a few spells in his arsenal.

If you're interested in seeing what all of this might look like in gameplay terms, allow me to share with you the recently posted teaser trailer that showcases the Taurant in action. All of the footage is from an early alpha version of Mirage, however, so don't be surprised if you catch a couple of awkward animations throughout the video. Anyway, have a look:
