Total War: Warhammer 2 screenshot of the High Elf leader from the cinematic

Total War: Warhammer 2 is the second in a trilogy of games that will span the entirety of the Warhammer Fantasy universe and include all of the notable races from the tabletop. The initial version of Total War: Warhammer 2 will bring with it the High Elves, Dark Elves, Lizardmen, and Skaven... though they haven't been fully revealed just yet, because let's be honest, who would believe in giant rat-people?

Even though Total War: Warhammer 2 is still under heavy development Creative Assembly has just released a rather lengthy gameplay video showing off a battle between the High Elves and Lizardmen. So if you're even remotely interested in what Total War: Warhammer 2 is shaping up to be like I would highly recommend you give it a look. Here's the video:

Knights of the Frozen Throne expansion artwork for Hearthstone

Ever since Hearthstone first launched people were clamoring for a Death Knight hero, and with the upcoming Knights of the Frozen Throne expansion Blizzard will be delivering just that! Unfortunately, the Death Knight will not be an entirely new class with its own mechanics and cards, but rather a Legendary card that transforms your basic hero into a much more evil, and much more powerful variant.

If you're looking for a brief overview of what exactly this means, as well as a quick look at the cinematic trailer that somehow manages to paint Jaina even more insane than she already is, you'll find what you seek in the recent announcement video below. Have a look:

Overwatch has a variety of very unique and interesting heroes, but not all of them are equally as viable across all tiers of gameplay. Heroes such as Junkrat are incredibly powerful in the lower ranks, but quickly lose effectiveness as you climb higher. On the flip side, hero combinations such as Winston + D.Va + Tracer + Genji are perfectly fine for the vast majority of the playerbase, but when it comes to tournaments and high-level games they are so powerful they have essentially made half of the roster unusable. Such are the balance problems currently plaguing Overwatch, but unfortunately there is no easy answer.

If you're wondering why this is so, or how exactly Overwatch developers choose to balance their game, you'll find a very detailed answer in one of the most recent posts from Jeff Kaplan himself. I would fully recommend you give the entire thing a read as it gives some great insight into the minds of the Overwatch team, but if you're just interested in the highlights allow me to share a couple of key quotes, though don't expect this to be super-short either as there is a lot to cover:

Doomfist punching the camera from Overwatch

The Overwatch PTR has recently been updated with the much-anticipated Doomfist, and as you would imagine from his name alone he is an absolute blast to play! The big question, however, is will Doomfist be the hero we're all hoping will save us from this dive meta, or will he be yet another highly mobile flanker that devours healers for breakfast?

As you'll see in the video below that's not exactly an easy question to answer given that he has the potential to go both ways. So if you're interested in my thoughts on the matter, as well as a brief overview of what exactly Doomfist's spells even do, I welcome you to check out the video:

After half a year or vague teasers and unconfirmed rumors Doomfist has finally arrived to the Overwatch PTR (Public Test Realm). Despite my expectations being set unreasonably high I must admit Doomfist has managed to surpass them with ease - he is ridiculously fun to play!

But first things first, if you're wondering who in the world Doomfist even is and what relevance he has to the Overwatch universe, you'll find the recently posted story trailer right below. Unlike the other cinematic shorts this one is done in a very anime-like art style, so even if you have no interest in Doomfist's backstory I would recommend giving it a look because of that alone. Anyway, here's the video:

GTA V character leaving behind a burning wreck

OpenIV, one of the most powerful and popular modding tools for the Grand Theft Auto series, recently received a cease and desist letter from Take-Two Interactive. After a massive community backlash that saw GTA V's Steam rating drop into "very negative" Rockstar finally issued an incredibly vague official statement. Given how ambiguous the statement was many were worried this was nothing more than a placebo, something to divert attention while the whole thing blows over.

Thankfully, that was not the case, and OpenIV team has now been given the approval they need to continue on with their work. Unfortunately, this did not come without sacrifices. The highly anticipated Liberty City in GTA V mod will not be released as it contradicts Rockstar's newly updated policy on mods. Here's the full quote from the OpenIV team:

Dark Souls 2 Scholar of the First Sin artwork and logo

The Humble Monthly Bundle is a $12 subscription service that instantly gives you access to one game, and then a whole bunch more a few weeks later. Last month the featured game was Stellaris, while this time around its Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin Edition which includes all of the DLC.

A lot of people consider Dark Souls 2 to be the weakest part of the Dark Souls trilogy, and I can't say I disagree with them, but then again the weakest part of the Dark Souls trilogy is still one of the best games I've ever played. So if you have even an inkling of interest in action-RPGs, and you don't mind a bit of challenge, I would heartily recommend you give Dark Souls 2 a try because for $12 you are getting an absolute ton of gameplay.

Evil Genius official artwork and logo

[Update]: Evil Genius 2 and its megalomaniacal schemes will be arriving this March 30, 2021.

Evil Genius is an oldschool "world domination simulator" most similar to games such as Dungeon Keeper. In other words, it was a game about creating an evil lair filled with traps and interrogation chambers at every step, all in an effort to create the ultimate doomsday device before pesky special agents sabotage all of your work.

While Evil Genius is considered an oldschool classic these days, it is by no means a perfect game: there are simply far too many bugs, obvious areas without polish, and a whole ton of untapped potential. However, the concept alone is so unique and interesting that its well worth playing despite all of its flaws. As such, I am very happy to say that Rebellion has now announced that they are working on Evil Genius 2!

Like most ideas out there, Valve's Major system started out with good intentions. After years of Dota 2 tournaments suffering from payment issues, overlapping schedules, and a variety of other problems Valve decided to chime in and create an organized system, one that would give pro teams the sort of stable environment they need in order to grow and advance. While it managed to do just that, the Major system also had the unfortunate side-effect of not only pushing out a variety of third-party tournaments, but also significantly lowering their viewer-counts and consequently prize-pools.

In an effort to fix this newfound problem Valve has yet again announced massive changes to Dota 2's tournament scene, though this time around I think they might have found the real solution. Instead of the previous Major system, Valve will be selecting a variety of third-party tournaments to directly sponsor. Furthermore, players competing in these tournaments will earn Qualifying Points which will be the sole factor in determining invites to The International 2018! If you're interested in the specifics, here's what Valve had to say in the announcement:

Scott Cawthon, the creator of the Five Nights at Freddy's series, is no stranger to sudden and rather unexpected moves. Just to put things into perspective, he's already managed to complete and launch a game months ahead of its official release date, design and publish a bizarre RPG spin-off without ever telling anyone until launch, and the list goes on.

As such, it might not come as the biggest surprise to hear that Scott has now canceled Five Nights at Freddy's 6, a game he has been teasing and dropping hints about for around a month now. What might come as a surprise, however, is that he's going to be taking some time off to work on a more relaxing game, perhaps even a pizzeria tycoon!
