Warhammer Skulls 2022 festival for video game announcements, updates and sales

Warhammer Skulls is an annual event that's here to celebrate everything related to Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000 video games. Needless to say, this includes things like reveals of brand new games, major updates for existing ones, as well as a whole assortment of sales to give you an excuse to dive into the universe.

Rather than cover every single small and mostly cosmetic update, allow me to instead share with you the five most exciting announcements from Warhammer Skulls 2022. Without further ado, here's the brief list:

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader reveal

Owlcat Games, the studio behind the excellent Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, have announced that they're working on a brand new turn-based CRPG - Rogue Trader. Expect to see a mountain of interesting dialogue, plenty of difficult choices with far-reaching consequences, as well as the ability to shape the future of not only your character but your entire crew.

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun reveal

With retro 'boomer shooters' becoming more and more popular with each passing year, it was only a matter of time before Warhammer 40k got its very own Doom clone. Once it arrives at some point in 2023, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun will bring with it heaps of sprite-based violence, an entire armory of high-powered weaponry, as well as hordes upon hordes of oddly adorable daemons to slice and dice!

Total War: Warhammer 3 Immortal Empires beta

The upcoming Immortal Empires combined campaign map will merge Total War: Warhammer 1, 2 and 3 into one gigantic world that's absolutely overflowing with things to do and places to conquer. While no release date has been announced just yet, Immortal Empires will be heading into Open Beta in Q3 2022. More information will be coming soon, so to help tide us over Creative Assembly also released a fancy new trailer showing off a combined Skaven and Nurgle attack against a Bretonnian castle!

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Psyker class reveal

After many months filled with rumors and mysteries, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide studio Fatshark has revealed that the fourth and final class will be the Psyker. More importantly, unlike Vermintide and Vermintide 2 that relied on pre-set characters to carry the whole experience, Darktide will give you the option to create and customize your very own characters. And yes, this does mean you'll be able to have duplicates!

Big Be'lakor update for Vermintide 2's Chaos Wastes

The Chaos Wastes are Vermintide 2's rogue-like game mode where you and your buddies get to explore a variety of randomized maps, collect powerful upgrades, and cleave your way through untold numbers of ratmen. All of that is jolly good fun, and on June 14th the whole thing is going to become even better as the Be'lakor update will add new enemies, challenges, and upgrades to toy around with!

While I consider these to be the most important announcements of the whole festival, this is only the tip of the iceberg. So if you're interested in all of the additions, and especially all of the various sales, make sure to head on over to Steam.

The Warhammer Skulls festival will last until June 8th, so you should have plenty of time to explore the various games and see what tickles your fancy. Personally I'd recommend checking out Warhammer: Vermintide 2, Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus and Total War: Warhammer 2 as all three games strike a great balance between quality and price.

Have fun!
