Vampire Survivors artwork for the indie roguelike hit

[Update #2]: Vampire Survivors is getting an animated show, along with even more free updates throughout the Summer!

[Update]: Vampire Survivors' second expansion has brought in a huge new map, 8 characters and 13 weapons.

Back in early 2022 the Vampire Survivors team rather optimistically announced that they will be doing a massive engine upgrade at some point in summer. This upgrade was not only supposed to significantly increase the performance (perhaps even up to ten times), but also give the developers a lot more freedom when it comes to designing new stages, items and weapons.

Needless to say, this didn't exactly go according to plan, though you'll be happy to hear that they're not giving up! According to the latest developer update they'll be working on it throughout early 2023, so with a bit of luck we might see the big upgrade sooner rather than later. Since the two versions will likely have some notable differences, the Vampire Survivors team will be maintaining both versions until 2024, at which point they'll fully commit to the new and improved one.

If you enjoyed the recent Legacy of the Moonspell expansion, you'll also be glad to hear that another expansion is already in the works. Much like its predecessor, it'll add more characters, weapons and stages to mess around with, though no specific details have been given just yet.

More importantly, the developers have specifically stated that no key feature will ever be gated by a paywall. In other words, you can still expect to see free updates with fancy new gameplay mechanics and loads of new content. These updates will be coming out at a slower pace than before, however, as the team is currently being spread thin between a lot of different platforms, including two engines.

That said, you won't have to wait all that long to give some of the new stuff a try as the Vampire Survivors team will be launching a Steam beta for the next update in the near future. Once that happens, I'll make sure to let you know.

Until then, you can read more about Vampire Survivors and its future over at Steam. Enjoy!
