Team Fortress 2 artwork for the Mercenary Park update

After what feels like an eternity of waiting Valve has finally announced that the Pyro Update will be coming to Team Fortress 2 in the near future! There will be a lot of new maps to explore, cosmetics to collect, Contracts to solve, and naturally, Pyro changes to constantly argue over.

The Flamethrower's visuals will soon have better effects and a more consistent reach, Afterburn duration will be based on how long you've 'flamethrowered' someone in the face, and the Airblast is getting a whole bunch of tweaks in order to make it more consistent and fair for both sides. The full details haven't been released just yet, you can find out more about some of the new features and changes over at the official website.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole screenshot of Coon & Friends

South Park: The Fractured But Whole is one of those games you can accurately judge just from its title alone. Its essentially a full season of South Park distilled into game form, with all of the same characters and humor from the show itself. To put it bluntly The Fractured But Whole is definitely not a game for everyone, and it doesn't pretend to be, but if you're a fan of the show you might want to give it a look.

Rather than just babble on, allow me to instead show you the most recent trailer. It doesn't feature much in terms of gameplay, but it should be enough to give you a general idea of what The Fractured But Whole is all about. Have a look:

Guild Wars 2's Shadow of the Mad King event screenshot

With Halloween just around the corner, Guild Wars 2 has now been updated with its annual Shadow of the Mad King event. As before, it brings with it a festive version of Lion's Arch, a Labyrinth full of enemies to squash, a deviously difficult Clock Tower jumping puzzle, a mini-dungeon that lets you fight against the Mad King himself, and naturally, a whole bunch of Halloween themed cosmetics.

While there are some awesome new armor sets and weapons to collect, the definite highlight are the various new mount skins. On their own they might not look impressive, but they all come with four different dye channels which gives you the option to transform them into just about anything. So if you want a Raptor made out of fire and smoke, the option is now there, provided you have the extremely expensive dyes to do so. The only problem is that you cannot buy the individual mount skins, but instead have to grab all of them through the slightly discounted bundle. Whether the mount skins are worth the rather pricey 1600 Gems, however, that I'll leave for you to decide.

Destiny 2 will be coming to PC exclusively via Blizzard's Battle.net client on October 24th. Besides the greatly improved visuals, the PC version will bring with it uncapped framerates, support for resolutions up to 4K, and the usual batch of PC-exclusive options to fiddle around with.

While the recently posted trailer won't offer you much of a glimpse at the various options, it should give you a pretty damn good idea of what the PC version will look like. So if you're interested in seeing what your rig will be struggling to run, you'll find the trailer right below:

The Talos Principle screenshot from the VR version

[Update]: Good news! The Talos Principle 2 is heading to PC and consoles on November 2, 2023.

For those of you that aren't familiar with it, The Talos Principle is a challenging puzzle-adventure with a bit of a philosophical story to it. Despite being created by Croteam, developers that are known primarily for the Serious Sam FPS series, I found it to be one of the more enjoyable puzzle games in recent years. As such, I am very glad to say that there is now a full VR version available!

In terms of content The Talos Principle VR brings with it the base game and the Road to Gehenna expansion, so you should be getting the full story here. More importantly, at least for my specific tastes, it brings with it a variety of different movement options! You can use delayed teleports, instant teleports, blink teleports, standard locomotion, and even locomotion with a couple of tweaks to increase comfort. It might not sound like much, but these types of options go a long way towards making VR games more enjoyable to play.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 screenshot of a Dwarf Slayer fighting against Chaos marauders

Back in September Fatshark announced the long-awaited sequel to the Left 4 Dead inspired rat-slaying simulator Vermintide, but unfortunately they didn't release even a tiny bit of information to back the announcement up. As such, I am very glad to say that the developers have now not only released a bunch of new info, but also a decently lengthy gameplay trailer as well!

Instead of just fighting the Skaven, we will now also be clashing swords and axes with the forces of Chaos. The trailer mostly features low-tier Chaos Marauders, but given the presence of Chaos Spawn and Trolls I think its safe to assume we're going to be slaying some bigger baddies as well, hopefully even a couple of Demons! But enough teasers for now, here's the very first gameplay video:

Overwatch artwork of Mercy flying towards the screen

The previous Overwatch update brought with it a major Mercy rework that attempted to make her a lot more proactive and enjoyable to play. While the changes have managed to do just that, they have also unfortunately created one of the most overpowered heroes Overwatch has ever seen. So overpowered in fact that Mercy's pickrate is currently nearing 100% across all ranks!

After a variety of changes and tweaks on the PTR Blizzard has now finally decided on a nerf for Mercy, which I have to admit is a lot gentler than I expected it would be. Oh, and its also worth mentioning that Lucio's insane wall-riding speed has now been restored! You'll find all of the details in the patch notes down below, have a look:

Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus screenshot of a flame-spewing robot dog

Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus will be sending us to Nazi-controlled America in order to clean up the place the only way B.J. Blazkowicz knows how, with an arsenal of extremely over-the-top weaponry! Continuing the tradition from the previous Wolfenstein game, The New Colossus will also have a heavy focus on storytelling and character development, which should provide an interesting contrast to all of the wanton destruction and flame-breathing robot dogs.

If you're interested in seeing what all of this might look like in-game, you'll find the recently posted launch trailer right below. Have a look, and make sure to stay to the very end as there is an extra scene after all of the action:

Total War: Warhammer 2 screenshot of High Elves vs Dark Elves

While it didn't arrive with the release version of Total War: Warhammer 2, the "Mortal Empires" combined campaign map is by far the most interesting part of the sequel. As you can probably guess from the name alone, it represents a combination of the campaign maps from Total War: Warhammer 1 and 2, with the end result being an absolutely gigantic world filled with a ton of different factions to conquer.

With that in mind, I hope you can now understand just how happy I am to say that Total War: Warhammer 2's combined campaign map will be coming next week! To be more specific, you can expect to see it on October 26th alongside a massive balance patch. The exact changes and bug fixes are still unknown, but I'm sure we'll get more information in the next few days.

Official artwork for the ELEX action RPG

Elex is an upcoming open-world RPG from Piranha Bytes, the creators of the Risen and Gothic RPG series. As you might imagine given the developers, Elex focuses primarily on exploration and player choice, so pretty much everything you do will in some form affect the opinions of the NPCs around you. A surprisingly rare trait for RPGs these days.

I'll have my full review up tomorrow, but its important to mention that Elex is a bit of a mixed bag. While its world-building is beyond amazing, the combat feels like you're playing Dark Souls at 500 ping, which is to say that its pretty damn awful. As such, I can only really recommend it to fans of both Risen and Gothic since the two series suffer from exactly the same issues. The good greatly outweighs the bad, don't get me wrong, but Elex is most certainly a flawed game and that is something you definitely should keep in mind before you spring for your wallet.
