Star Wars Battlefront 2 official artwork for General Grevious on a black background

[Update]: After two years of patches, development on Battlefront 2 is now coming to an end.

To say that Star Wars Battlefront 2 launched with problems would be one heck of an understatement, but to DICE's credit they have slowly but surely turned the starship around. The ridiculous microtransactions have been removed, the post-launch updates have added some interesting new content and cosmetics, and in the relatively near future we'll also be getting a massive Clone Wars themed update.

The update will include an improved squad system that allows you to easily group up with friends and other players, a Starfire game mode that will be all about dogfights in iconic hero ships, as well as a new large-scale sandbox mode that will put the focus on capturing points and destroying giant enemy ships. Naturally, there will also be four new and rather thematic heroes to toy around with: General Grievous, Obi-wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and the always mopey Count Dooku.

As you would expect from any Clone Wars themed update, there will be a new map based on the planet Genosis. According to DICE it's going to be the largest map ever built for Battlefront, which most likely means it'll be a part of the newly announced sandbox mode. Either way, stomping around set pieces from the movie is almost guaranteed to be a fun time, so I am all for it!

If you're eager to learn more, I'm afraid you're out of luck as this is everything EA and DICE chose to reveal for the time being. On the positive side, the update will be coming to Battlefront 2 in the coming months, so more details should be arriving fairly soon.

Once they do, I'll make sure to let you know, but you can also keep an eye on the official website for any more announcements.
