Warhammer 40k: Darktide artwork showing off all of the classes alongside the logo

[Update #2]: Darktide's Rejects Unite update is adding two new maps, Chaos Spawn boss, and even more cosmetics!

[Update]: Darktide's Update #8 has finally fixed finicky specials (Hounds, Poxbursters & Mutants) and buffed the fan-favorite Plasma Gun.

Now that most of the big issues have been squared away, it looks like it's finally time for Darktide to once again start getting new content. And so, as a part of the freshly released Tools of War update, Darktide has now brought in ten new weapon variants to mess around with, a couple of crucial buffs to Psykers to make their kit flow better in the thick of combat, as well as a plethora of quality-of-life improvements and tweaks.

After trying out all of the new toys, my definite favorite is the Psyker's Illisi Mk V Blaze Force Sword. It's a giant sword meant for cleaving through large swaths of enemies, and while you can only do one charged attack at a time, the devastation it causes is well worth the trouble. It also has decent mobility and a fast attack speed, so if you need a weapon that can get you out of a bind as quickly as possible, this one would be a good choice!

What it and all of the other weapons look like in action, that you can check out through the brief trailer below. Have a peek:

As for the Psyker tweaks, the big thing is that non-force weapons now quell peril significantly faster than before. Combine that with a slightly faster active quell speed, and you've got yourself a much smoother and less punishing gameplay loop. It might not sound like much on paper, but trust me on this one, the difference is really noticeable when you're playing on the harder difficulties.

The final thing worth mentioning is a simple yet effective quality-of-life improvement - the weapon shop has been moved closer to the upgrade station. So even if you're not using mods that let you keybind all of the different services, buying and upgrading a variety of weapons should be a whole lot easier with the new layout.

You can check out the full list of changes, including all of the numbers behind the balance tweaks, over at the Fatshark forums.

Once the next big update arrives, hopefully with a brand new map to ransack, I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, have fun with all of the new weapons!
