[Update]: No Man's Sky update has now added living ships, strange space encounters, as well as even more quality-of-life changes.

It is no secret that No Man's Sky launched as a bit of a mess. To put it simply, it was a skeleton of a game, filled with a whole bunch of interesting ideas and features, but without anything to actually connect them or give them a purpose. Just another in a long line of games that tried to bite off far more than it could possibly chew.

Usually the story would end there, but Hello Games thankfully chose to go for a bit of a different path. Instead of simply abandoning No Man's Sky for a brand new project, they got to work on the herculean task of fleshing out the core gameplay and turning No Man's Sky into something you'd want to not only play frequently, but also get your friends interested in as well!

In order to achieve this, over the past few years Hello Games have released update after update, each one bringing with it a plethora of new features and reasons to explore the universe anew. All of this will soon culminate with the Beyond, the biggest and most ambitious content update No Man's Sky has seen so far!

While the details are unfortunately still few and far between, I can tell you that it will bring with it a plethora of new multiplayer features and improvements, seemingly better VR support, NPCs that are no longer chained to their little outposts, and a whole bunch of other additions to help spice the universe up! Here's a sneak peek at what all of this will look like in-game:

I'd love to tell you more, but I'm afraid this trailer is everything Hello Games have shared so far. On the positive side, the Beyond update is set to arrive this August 14th, so we won't have to wait for too long in order to get some of those juicy details!

Until then, you can read a tiny bit more about the Beyond update and Hello Games' plans over at the official website.
