Despite it being among the very first features advertised in interviews and trailers, No Man's Sky launched without any sort of multiplayer. A real shame since exploration and crafting games are infinitely more enjoyable with a couple of friends at your side. Quite a lot of time has passed since then, however, and I am very glad to say that Hello Games has now finally corrected that little mistake by adding a full multiplayer experience as a part of Update 1.5.
Besides being able to explore the world alongside your buddies, Patch 1.5 has extended the base-building system to the point that you can now make highly complex bases in any region, added a new third-person mode for both vehicles and ground exploration, overhauled the visuals and crafting systems, and perhaps most interestingly of all, allowed you to take control of entire armadas. There still doesn't appear to be much of an end-game outside of wondering across the world, but I have to give credit where credit is due, Hello Games has certainly made that part of the game a lot more engaging through all of these massive updates!
You can get a pretty good peek at what all of this looks like in-game through the recently posted trailer down below. I'd say it's well worth the two minutes it takes to check out, if for no other reason than the awesome new character models. Have a gander:
