[Update #2]: Apex Legends' Warriors update is adding a new Arena map and bringing back the Control mode on March 29th, 2022.

[Update]: Season 12 - Defiance has now arrived, and so far the new Control game mode is looking remarkably fun!

If you're itching for a bit of a shakeup, mark February 8th on your calendar as that's when Apex Legends' Season 12 - Defiance will finally arrive. And naturally, it won't do so empty-handed! You can expect to see Mad Maggie as a brand new Legend, a significant rework of the Olympus map, a surprisingly fleshed out limited time game mode by the name of Control, a new PvP season, as well as an assortment of new cosmetics to collect.

What all of this looks like in action, that you can get a pretty good idea of through the recently posted gameplay trailer. Have a gander, it's quite an informative one:

I can only hope the Control game mode will end up being a permanent addition in the future because the idea behind it is brilliant. Unlike the main game mode or Arena where there's a ton of pressure and a single death can mean ruin for your entire team, Control seems a lot more easygoing and fast-paced, perfect for short bursts of action or some aiming practice. It might not be something I spend large amounts of time on, but for the occasional game I can definitely see it being a good time.

On a somewhat unrelated note, it's also worth mentioning that Respawn has now detailed the various changes coming to Olympus in Season 12. So if you're interested in all of the specifics, or if you just want to take a sneak peek at some of the new locations, you can find what you seek over at the Apex Legends website.

Once Season 12 arrives I'll also make sure to let you know. Until then, I'll leave you with another one of the previews, this time around mostly focused on Mad Maggie herself. Enjoy!
