[Update #2]: After exactly a year in Early Access, Sons Of The Forest's Version 1.0 has now been unleashed!

[Update]: In a bit of an unexpected, though not unwelcome twist, Sons of the Forest has now launched into Early Access instead of going for a 'proper' release.

After spending a fair few years in Steam Early Access, the survival-horror focused The Forest launched back in 2018 to mostly positive reviews. For good reason too, because while The Forest may be slightly janky, it's also a highly immersive experience and one that has stuck with me over the years.

If you've never played it, this would be a pretty good time to dive in as the fancy new sequel, Sons of the Forest, has just received a release date! You can expect to see it unleashed for PC on May 20, 2022, which gives you more than enough time to explore the entirety of the original's forest and the madness that lies beyond.

Unfortunately, the exact details behind the sequel and its features are still few and far between. However, you can get a little bit of an idea of what Sons of the Forest will be about through the recently posted trailer. Have a peek:

While I'm not a big fan of adding guns to horror games since a shotgun tends to blast away any tension, I really do like the new enemy designs. Even in broad daylight they are unsettling, which means that once they're skulking around my base in the middle of the night they're most likely going to squeeze a fair few screams and swears out of me, just like in the original.

I'd love to tell you more, but I'm afraid that's pretty much it for the time being. You can keep an eye on any updates, as well as potential teasers, over at the official website.
