After exactly a year of updates that have fleshed out everything from the gameplay mechanics to the world and story, Sons Of The Forest has now been released from Early Access. Personally I think that may have been a bit premature as there's still parts of the game that feel underbaked, but that's a fairly minor nitpick as the basic gameplay loop of exploring, fighting and base-building is very satisfying.

As for what exactly all of this looks like in action, as well as what sort of style and atmosphere Sons of the Forest has gone for, that you can check out through the launch trailer below. Have a gander:

If you're still on the fence about whether you should dive in yourself, that's thankfully a fairly easy question to answer. Did you enjoy the original The Forest? If yes, then you'll almost certainly enjoy the sequel as it's basically the same game, just polished up and with a few more bells and whistles.

On the other hand, if this is your first time seeing this series, the big question is: how much do you enjoy mucking around in an open world and building your own little slice of heaven from essentially nothing? If that sounds like fun, Sons Of The Forest should be right up your alley. However, if the whole exploring & crafting loop isn't your thing and you're mostly interested in the story, then I'd say get it at a discount somewhere down the line since the campaign, if you would call it that, isn't all that impressive on its own.

Whatever your plans may be, you can learn more about Sons Of The Forest, as well as keep track of any updates, over at Steam. Enjoy!
