Ubisoft's open-world pirate adventure Skull & Bones is coming in the Fall of 2018 for PC and consoles

[Update #2]: Skull and Bones has been delayed yet again, though this time we have an actual release date - March 9th, 2023!

[Update]: Skull & Bones has been delayed for the fourth consecutive year, this time around until 2022-23.

After the success of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag it became obvious that there is considerable interested in a fully-fledged pirate game. As such, it really shouldn't come as much of a surprise to hear that there are now two multiplayer pirate adventures just beyond the horizon: the cartoony and stylized Sea of Thieves, and the much more serious Skull & Bones from Ubisoft themselves.

If you're wondering how exactly Skull & Bones improves upon the foundation set by Black Flag, and more importantly of all, how its actually going to play, you'll find your answers in the official "What You Need to Know" video. The whole thing is fairly long, but it does a rather good job of explaining what Skull & Bones is all about, so I'd recommend having a look despite its length:

The online shooter/RPG hybrid Escape from Tarkov has now entered Closed Beta

Escape from Tarkov is an atmospheric online shooter with RPG and survival elements, as well as a fully fledged story campaign set in open-ended levels. If all of that sounds to you like one hell of an undertaking, you would be absolutely right, but apparently Escape from Tarkov has managed to achieve most of its planned features given that it has just recently transitioned into a Closed Beta state.

In order to get into the Closed Beta you will need to purchase one of the early access packages, after which you will receive your key in one of the upcoming waves, no later than the end of next week. But first things first, here's what exactly the current state of Escape from Tarkov looks like, and more importantly, what it plays like:

Abandon Ship is a naval strategy/adventure game most similar to FTL

Abandon Ship is a singleplayer strategy/adventure game where you will have to take command of a ship and its crew in order to explore a vast and procedurally generated world. Along the way you will take up quests, deal with random events, and naturally, fight against pirates and gigantic monstrosities that delve in the ocean's depths.

Its obvious that Abandon Ship has taken heavy inspiration from FTL, but worry not as it has enough bells and whistles of its own to make things interesting. You'll see what I mean in one of the most recent combat trailers. Have a look:

The first episode of Telltale's Game of Thrones series is now available for free

As you've most likely heard, Telltale's Game of Thrones series is a bit of a mixed bag. On one hand its well written and surprisingly accurate to the GoT world, while on the other hand your choices barely matter and the entire ending is decided in the final 30 minutes. In many ways its more of an interactive movie than an actual game, far more than what you might've encountered in Telltale's previous work.

Given the controversy and wildly conflicting reviews its not exactly easy to drop €28 on it and hope for the best, which is why I'm glad to say that the very first episode is now free to try out. So if you ever wanted to see what Telltale's Game of Thrones series is all about, you now have a chance to do just that!

Even though Serious Sam VR's Early Access period is slowly coming to an end the developers are still pushing out massive updates. As you might imagine from the title, in the most recent one they had added the long-awaited and unsurprisingly destructive skills and power-ups system.

What this means in gameplay terms is that you now have the ability to play around with orbital death-lasers, plasma cannons, swarms of flying quadcopters, minigun turrets, gigantic explosions, and apparently even armies of spiders. If you're wondering what all of this madness might look like, here's the recently posted and sadly rather short trailer:

Saints Row dev's next open-world action-adventure Agents of Mayhem is coming this August

The Saints Row series has slowly but surely become more and more ridiculous over the years, and the upcoming Agents of Mayhem appears to be the final evolution of such a concept. In the most basic terms Agents of Mayhem is a third-person open-world action-adventure where a whole bunch of seemingly insane 'good guys' are fighting against a completely over-the-top villainous organization known as LEGION.

Words alone just aren't enough to convey the sheer ridiculousness of Agents of Mayhem, so instead allow me to share with you one of the most recent trailers. Its a bit light on pure gameplay, but it should give you a pretty damn good idea of just what Agents of Mayhem truly is. Have a look:

Need For Speed Payback's latest trailer shows off the new customization and upgrade system

Need For Speed Payback official artwork

While this has been a long time coming, the recently announced Need for Speed Payback has almost completely dropped any pretense of realism in favor of ridiculous speeds and even more ridiculous cars. As such, it really shouldn't come as much of a surprise to hear that Need for Speed Payback will focus heavily on customization, both in terms of visuals and performance.

If you're wondering how all of this will work, and what exactly you will need to do in order to craft your dream-car, you'll find your answers in the most recent trailer. Its not very long, but it does manage to get the message across quite nicely. Have a look:
