World War Z screenshot of the zombie hordes from the new Aftermath expansion

[Update]: Aftermath has now shambled onto PC and consoles, though not without some technical trouble.

Despite the vast majority of tie-in games being somewhere between awful to completely unremarkable, World War Z managed to successfully beat the odds and release as a genuinely good co-op shooter. Best of all, thanks to a newly announced expansion the future is now only looking brighter and brighter for World War Z!

Once it arrives later this year, World War Z: Aftermath will bring with it three new episodes set in Rome, Vatican City and Kamchatka, a variety of new characters and weapons to toy around with, and naturally, a whole bunch of new undead monstrosities to slice and dice your way through. And if you're looking for a little bit of extra immersion, there will also be a first-person mode option.

Shortly after the expansion launches, World War Z will be also be adding the new Horde Mode XL as a part of a free update. As the name would imply, Horde Mode XL will have you face off against the endless and ever-increasing hordes of enemies, eventually culminating in battles that will have hundreds more zombies on screen than previously possible. Should be quite fun!

You can get a pretty good idea of what all of this looks like in action, as well as what the new weapons and zombies might bring to the able, through the recently posted trailer. Have a gander:

Once we get a proper release date announcement I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, you can read a little bit more about World War Z: Aftermath over at Steam.
