Warhammer 40,000: Darktide official artwork showing Veteran and Zealot classes

[Update #2]: Darktide's likely final 2022 patch has fixed two major Psyker issues, a bunch of crashes, and temporarily removed player outlines.

[Update]: Patch 1.0.20 has now arrived, and while it's unfortunately a bit buggy, I'm happy to say that the new power mauls pack one hell of a punch!

As I've detailed throughout my review, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a downright brilliant game that still needs a fair bit of polish in order to truly shine. How long that process will take, that I'm afraid I have no idea, but I'm happy to say that Fatshark has already announced an update that's looking to fix some of the most common complaints.

Once it arrives this December 14th the update will add two new weapons for the Ogyrn to play around with: Indignatus Mk IVe Crusher and Achlys Mk I Power Maul. The exact details are still few and far between, but I can only imagine that the power maul will be a powerful yet slow one-handed weapon, while the appropriately titled crusher will likely be a gigantic hunk of metal for the Ogyrn to really flex his muscles with.

Besides the two new weapons, Darktide's upcoming update will also add the ability to create private matches. There is a bit of catch, however, as the new system will require you to have at least two people in the same group in order to launch a private match. That said, Fatshark is actively working on enabling true solo play, so hopefully we won't have to wait all that long for it to arrive.

As an added bonus, Fatshark has launched a brand new story teaser

The December 14th update will also implement the second part of the crafting system - refining. This will allow you to re-roll one perk on a curio or weapon, while also completely locking in all of the other perks. Thanks to the new system creating good items should be a lot easier than before, though creating perfect ones will remain a heavily random and unfortunately time-consuming process.

As for the future, Fatshark is currently looking into adding a variety of emotes for players to mess around with, including a "For the Emperor!" shout inspired by Deep Rock Galactic's iconic "Rock and stone!" They're also looking into making progression shared between characters, as well as making penances (achievements) less annoying, though nothing specific has been revealed just yet.

Once the update goes live, or Fatshark announces some other juicy piece of information, I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, you can read the full developer announcement over at Steam. Enjoy!
