Warcraft 3 Patch 1.27a is now available

Blizzard's classic games team only just appeared this week but they've already garnered a huge amount of respect from the community, first by patching Diablo 2 glitches and compatibility issues, and now by doing the same thing for Warcraft 3.

Today's update, titled simply as Patch 1.27a, brings with it improved compatibility for modern systems, a crash fix, and a preview of things to come. Here are the patch notes and what exactly Blizzard is planning to do with Warcraft 3 in the future:

Specific Changes & Improvements:

• Throw away that old PowerPC Mac in the closet, we’ve created a new installer to support Mac 10.10 and 10.11

• Improved compatibility with Windows 7, 8.1, and 10

• Fixed a crash caused by Chain Lightning

Known Issues:

• Windows 8.1 and 10 saved games are still stored in a location that requires running as system admin

• Some graphical issues with the cinematics are still occurring

• Changes to gamma settings will not take effect in windowed mode

• Cyrillic characters are still not displaying

• Disabled ambient sound while a MIDI issue is being resolved

• Mac 10.9 and earlier are not supported

• Mac build does not support the editor

While this is a great patch, and one that ensures the future of Warcraft 3, I can imagine more than a few people being disappointed in the lack of balance changes, especially when it comes to the Undead which have become almost nonexistent in the pro scene.

If that's your concern, worry not as Blizzard has stated that they are still working on a proper balance patch that will be arriving in the coming months:

"Please be aware that while we are working on a balance change and new map pool, that work is still in progress and is not part of this patch. We’ll have further details on that as development progresses. "

With Blizzard's classic games team seemingly on a roll and two games already scratched off the list, who do you think is going to be next? Starcraft, Diablo 1, or perhaps even the Lost Vikings?
