After being quietly rumored for around a month now, Ubisoft has finally come out and officially announced that The Division will be getting a movie adaptation. A move that I must admit is quite surprising given that The Division is not well known for its gripping story and compelling characters, but rather the opposite.

As for the movie itself, it will star Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty, Interstellar, The Martian) and Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler, South Paw, Donnie Darko) in the lead roles, while the whole thing will be produced in a collaboration between Ubisoft Motion Pictures and Gyllenhaal's Nine Stories Productions.

If you are looking for a plot synopsis or what in the world the movie is going to be about given The Division's rather convoluted storyline, I'm afraid Ubisoft didn't provide such information, but I'd imagine this is going to be more of a spin-off story rather than a straight up adaptation of The Division. Whatever the case may be, I hope they use the premise better than the game itself given that there were so many potentially touching moments completely ruined by a horde of bullet-spongy enemies running in and shooting up the place.

While there is no release date set for The Division movie, Ubisoft's other big project cinema project, Assassin's Creed, is set to arrive in December, 2016. Here's the trailer to give you a brief glimpse of what Ubisoft is capable of with their movies:
