Its been less than a month since the first trailer for the Assassin's Creed movie appeared, and already there are rumors of Ubisoft expanding their movie empire onto other franchises as well.

As revealed by Variety, Ubisoft is reportedly working on a movie adaptation of The Division with Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler, South Paw, Donnie Darko) as the lead actor. None of this is officially confirmed, and even if it was I wouldn't expect to see the movie in the near future as there isn't even a writer on board as of yet, but its certainly an intriguing rumor.

The Division itself has an unremarkable and rather generic story, though from all of the set-pieces littered around the various missions its clear that it was originally supposed to be much more grandiose. Some areas, such as the morgue from early on in the game, were seemingly designed to elicit powerful emotions, but all Ubisoft ever did with those locations was fill them with a couple of dime-a-dozen baddies and "put X into Y" puzzles.

To be perfectly honest I hope this rumor ends up being true, not because I have any particular attachment to The Division, but rather because I would love to see video game movies become an actually serious thing. Sure there would be numerous cash-ins and generic sequels, but there's always the chance for some of them to end up being excellent, and just the idea of a good Warhammer 40k movie is making me quite giddy.

While there is no release date set for The Division movie, mostly on account of it not even being confirmed at this point, you will be able to see Ubisoft's movie-making prowess this December with the Assassin's Creed movie.
