Omnath, Locus of Creation official alt-artwork

[Update #2]: Omnath is back! Thanks to the new Alchemy format, Omnath has been unbanned, rebalanced and even subsequently buffed!

[Update]: The day has finally come, Uro and Omnath have been fully banned from Historic play!

To say that MTG Arena ran into some balance problems after the release of the Zendikar Rising set would be quite an understatement. Even after banning the nigh-omnipresent Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath, his big brother Omnath, Locus of Creation simply stepped in to fill the gap. Things got so bad that even decks that were specifically engineered to counter Omnath ended up failing miserably in the most recent tournament, with the final four matches being just an endless parade of Omnaths fighting Omnaths.

And so, in an announcement that should come as absolutely no surprise, Wizards of the Coast has now banned Omnath in Standard and Brawl game modes, while also suspending him in Historic. To further ensure the meta doesn't spiral from one overpowered deck to another, Lucky Clover and Escape to the Wilds have also been banned from Standard play.

On the Historic Front, Teferi, Time Raveler and Wilderness Reclamation are now longer simply suspended, but have been outright banned. However, Burning-Tree Emissary has now been unsuspended as the power level of the format has greatly increased over the past few months, which should make its inclusion a lot less back-breaking for slower decks.

Much like before, if you have any of the banned cards in your collection, you'll be granted the appropriate wildcards in return. So if you were particularly clever and crafted some Omnaths and Lucky Clovers ahead of the ban announcement, congratulations as you've just scored yourself some powerful cards for free!

You can read the full explanation behind each ban, as well as keep track of any future announcement, over at the official website.
