Total War: Troy artwork for Menelaus of Sparta

[Update #2]: Total War: Troy has been unleashed, and it is indeed entirely free to grab for the first 24 hours!

[Update]: Total War: Troy's Amazons DLC will be free to grab just like the base game.

Unlike the rest of the Total War series, Troy will be releasing this August 13th exclusively for the Epic Games Store. More importantly, it will also be entirely free to grab for the first 24 hours after launch!

So if you're curious just what Troy has to offer, as well as how its campaign differs from the rest of the series, you might want to check out the newest gameplay preview. It features Menelaus of Sparta and his campaign mechanics, which while seemingly quite simple, can result in some incredibly diverse and interesting armies. Have a look:

While I'm not exactly sure how long this kind of a straightforward campaign will keep my interest for, especially when compared to the ridiculously massive Total War: Warhammer 2, I am willing to give Troy a fair shot. It seems to have some genuinely interesting ideas, especially when it comes to diversifying units and their roles on the battlefield, so here's to hoping all of that ends up working out as planned. And if not, well, at least it's entirely free!
