The Lord of the Rings: Gollum screenshot of the stealth focused gameplay

[Update #2]: The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has now finally arrived and, unsurprisingly, it's a bit of a mess.

[Update]: The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has been delayed yet again following a poorly received preview.

When The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was first announced back in 2019, its release date was loosely set for 2021. Given that we're now in 2021 and we still know basically nothing about Gollum, it should come as very little surprise to hear that its release date has now been pushed back to 2022.

No exact release date has been given just yet, but what I can tell you is that Gollum will be launching onto PC, Xbox One and Series X, PlayStation 4 and 5, as well as the Nintendo Switch. Similarly, there is still no actual gameplay to show, but you can at least get a bit of an idea of the sort of atmosphere the team is going for through the original teaser trailer. Have a gander:

That said, so far it seems that Gollum will be a heavily stealth focused adventure that will have you roam across a good chunk of Middle-earth while loosely following The Lord of the Rings storyline. Along the way you'll also be able to make a variety of choices that will either help Gollum retain what little sanity he has left or simply plunge him into madness. What sort of effects this will have on the gameplay, I'm afraid that's something we'll just have to wait and see.

Once more information becomes available I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, you can read a tiny bit more about The Lord of the Rings: Gollum over at Steam.
