[Update]: Crusader Kings 3 will be attempting to usurp the throne on September 1, 2020!

Crusader Kings 2 has been free to try out many times before, but this time around it appears to have actually gone free-to-play. I say "appears" because the brief announcement doesn't say how long this free-to-play period will last, but since there is no end date listed on Steam like there was for the previous promotions, I think odds are good that Crusader Kings 2 has actually gone completely free now.

Whatever the case may be, I'm sure there are quite a few of you wondering whether Crusader Kings 2 is actually worth your time, to which I would say the answer is a definitive yes if you're a fan of grand strategy games or just enjoy creating your very own stories. After all, it's not every day you can take a petty insult from the AI and turn it into a life-long feud that culminates in the stupidest man you could possibly find taking control of their empire and promptly running it into the dirt.

When it comes to the myriad of DLCs, it is worth mentioning that you don't need to buy all of them, or even any of them to have a good time with Crusader Kings 2. Just pick and choose the ones that sound like fun and ignore the rest. Again, you really don't need to spend €150 in order to get the full experience.
