[Update]: Team Sonic Racing has now made its way to both PC and consoles.

Team Sonic Racing will be coming to PC and consoles this May 21st, bringing with it fifteen Sonic characters to play around with, as well as a variety of tracks, powerups and tricks to help spice things up. It is being developed by Sumo Digital, the studio behind the truly excellent Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed kart game, so unless something goes terribly wrong, chances are that Team Sonic Racing will end up being pretty darn enjoyable.

While the recently posted trailer unfortunately doesn't showcase much in terms of straight up gameplay, it'll give you a pretty decent idea of the sort of characters and tracks you'll be able to mess around with. Have a gander:

Personally, I am somewhat disappointed that Team Sonic Racing is a shying away from the ideas brought up by Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Instead of having a vibrant cast of characters and some of the most iconic maps around, the developers have needlessly limited themselves to only the Sonic universe and its character. I have no doubt the gameplay will be good as Sumo Digital really knows their kart racers, but I can't help but feel like it could've been so much more.

Whatever the case may be, I suppose we'll find out soon enough as Team Sonic Racing is set to arrive this May. You can learn more about it, as well as follow its development moving forward, by hopping over to the official website.
