[Update #2]: It took a while for this announcement to arrive, but Remedy Entertainment is now officially working on Control 2!

[Update]: Despite already working on numerous new games, Remedy has now announced a brand new co-operative PvE shooter - Project Vanguard.

In an announcement that I must admit comes as quite a surprise, Remedy Entertainment and 505 Games have just revealed that they are partnering to create a 4-player cooperative PvE (player vs. environment) game based on the Control universe. While the details on project Condor are still few and far between, I can tell you that it will be launching onto PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

“We are excited to continue and further expand our collaboration with Remedy. With over 2 million copies sold and revenue exceeding EUR 70 million, Control is an extremely successful game,” reads the brief investors announcement. “As a multiplayer game, Condor has the potential to engage the gaming community in the long run, contributing to 505 Games’ product revenue stream longer than traditional games.”

While I must admit my initial reaction was a fairly dismissive one, the more I think about it the more I actually like the idea of a co-op focused Control game. However, instead of doing a repeat of Control's original story and having you investigate a bunch of bizarre events, my ideal version of project Condor would have you take control of the clean up crew - a bunch of veteran operatives whose role is to mop away any supernatural nonsense whenever it gets out of control.

This would not only have you explore a variety of interesting environments and storylines, but it would also be a great excuse to have a whole assortment of strange enemies to fight against. And considering that one of Control's biggest issues was that the combat would get repetitive after a while, this sort of thing could go a long way towards making project Condor remain fresh and exciting for quite a few hours.

Whatever the case may be, I'll make sure to let you know once we get a proper announcement. Until then, you can read a little bit more about project Condor over at the Remedy website.
